The Happytime Murders Red Band Trailer – Melissa McCarthy joins a grown-up puppet noir

August 15, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For quite a few years The Jim Henson Company has been working on The Happytime Murders, but despite plans to shoot in 2010 and 2012, and stars likes Katherine Heigl, Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx linked to it at various times, the project remained stuck in development hell. Now though it’s in the can with Melissa McCarthy starring, even if it did have a few troubles after the first trailer and poster was released, when the owners of Sesame Street sued them as they felt this very grown-up puppet movie was trying to link itself to the kids programme.

That lawsuit quickly went away, and now a new trailer has arrived to give us a fresh look at some very rude puppetry.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS is set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives, one human and one puppet, are forced to work together to try and solve who is brutally murdering the former cast of “The Happytime Gang,” a beloved classic puppet show.’

Joel McHale, Maya Rudolph and Elizabeth Banks also star. Take a look at the new trailer below. The movie will be in cinemas on August 27th. [Read more…]

Joel McHale Up To Join Eric Bana In The Thriller Beware The Night

May 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joel-McHaleCommunity star Joel McHale has mainly stuck to comedy when he’s dipped his toe into the movies, such as Ted and What’s Your Number?. However now he’s heading towards thriller territory, as THR reports that he’s in final talks to join Eric Bana in Beware The Night, with Sean Harris (Prometheus) also likely to sign on.

Scott Derrickson (Sinister) is set to direct from a script he co-wrote with frequent writing partner Paul Harris Boardman. The movie follows a New York police officer investigating real life demon possessions, exorcisms and werewolves after dark. McHale is set to be Bana’s partner, a tough, experienced cop. Harris will be the creepy antagonist, a soldier who’s possibly possessed by the devil. Olivia Munn will play Bana’s wife, and Edgar Ramirez has been cast as a Jesuit priest.

It’s not 100% clear when the movie will shoot, but it appears McHale will slot it in between A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle, a comedy co-starring Robin Williams and Lauren Graham, which he’s just filmed, and Blended, with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, which he’ll film later this summer. After that he’s headed back to the Community set for a fifth season.

Community’s Joel McHale Doesn’t Mind If You Say He’s Gay

April 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joel-Mchale-shirtlessJoel McHale has gained a lot of gay fans around the globe thanks to Community, and as with pretty much every good-looking male celeb who looks after their body (and boy does he look after his body), he’s had rumours about his sexuality floating around for years. Now he’s been talking to The Advocate about it, and has revealed he really doesn’t care.

”I always find it really weird when guys flip out over someone thinking they might be gay,” he says. “If a guy gets offended by that, there’s something wrong with him. I take it as a compliment.”

He adds, “As long as the comments about my body are positive, I don’t mind.”

McHale’s very happy about all the support his comedy show has had from gay fans, saying “Community needs all the help it can get, so thank God for our gay fans. Our young gay fans especially are the loudest and most Internet-savvy. That also speaks to the quality of our show, which I think is highly intelligent.”

As well as Community, McHale presented the TV series The Soup, and has popped up in movies such as Spider-man 2, Ted, and What’s Your Number?.

The actor also tells a story about a situation where he ended up in a gay bar as a young man, waiting for a friend, when he realised that the men around him were starting to come onto him. So what’s his advice for a straight man to deal with this situation? “Just a very quick, courteous blowjob.”

Joel McHale Joins Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore Rom-Com

April 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joel-McHaleA couple of month ago it was revealed that Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore are getting together for a third time for a currently untitled new rom-com. They’ve now got some company as Joel McHale has signed up to star in the film, according to THR.

The movie is about a man and a woman who have a horrible first date and then find themselves stuck together at a resort with their respective children from previous marriages. McHale is set to play Drew Barrymore’s immature and skeezy ex-husband, although there’s no info on exactly how he fits into the plot or how big the role is.

Frank Coraci is set to direct, with shooting due to begin in a few months time.

Joel McHale, Lauren Graham & Robin Williams Find A Friggin’ Xmas Miracle

February 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joel-McHaleCommunity star Joel McHale is hoping to make a splash in the film world, as he’s moving up from supporting roles to starring with A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle, according to THR. Also up for the film are Lauren Graham and Robin Williams, working from a script by Wreck-It Ralph’s Phil Johnston.

Tristram Shapeero, who’s previously worked with McHale on Community, will direct the movie, which ‘follows Boyd Mitchler (McHale) and his wife Luann (Lauren Graham) as they spend a dreaded Christmas with Boyd’s father Mitch (Williams) and his family of misfits. Upon realising that he has left all of his son’s gifts at home, Boyd hits the road with his father and younger brother in an attempt to make the eight-hour round trip before sunrise.’

Hopefully it’ll be better than most Christmas movies. Shooting is set to begin in late March in Atlanta (which hopefully will look suitably Christmassy, even if it is Spring).
