New Marvel Pics From Thor: The Dark World, Guardians Of The Galaxy & Captain America 2

EW
has dropped some new pics from Marvel’s upcoming movies, including a still of Chris Hemsworth looking heroic in Thor: The Dark World, plus concept art from Guardians Of The Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Marvel head honcho Kevin Fiege also has a few comments, saying “There are things in [Iron Man 3], in the next Thor movie, and particularly in the next Cap movie that will drastically change the landscape between Avengers and Avengers 2.”

On Captain America 2, he says, “Just as he’s given permission to let go of the past and to focus on the modern world… a ghost comes up.” That refers of the Captain’s old friend, Bucky Barnes, who’s resurrected, turned evil and becomes the Winter Soldier of the title.

Fiege adds, “We weren’t going back to World War II. Cap cannot travel in time. So while Tony can go home to Malibu and Thor goes up to Asgard and Hulk can sort of ride the rails, Cap was stuck. So Cap does stay with S.H.I.E.L.D. because he has nowhere else to go. But he’s not necessarily comfortable there…

“With the greatest generation in World War II, there’s a tendency to reflect on that period and say. ‘Things were black and white back then, and now it’s hard to know who the bad guys are.’ We wanted to play on that a little with Cap being uncomfortable with the way S.H.I.E.L.D., and in particular Nick Fury, operates. Fury certainly rides a line, sort of rides the shadows. He has, I think, lied to every character in every movie, though always for seemingly for the good.”

On the grittier, slightly more fantasy based Thor: The Dark World, he says, “It’s less to chase either Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings — because you’re not going to catch up. But part of the fun of Thor over the other characters is he doesn’t have to stay on Earth. We visit a few of the other realms in this new movie.”

As for Guardians, he says, “We can take it to all those crazy places as long as all the characters respond in an emotionally truthful way. That’s why I believe people are going to respond to Chris Pratt and to an alien Zoë Saldana—because they did respond to that one time before [with Avatar]. And to a tree and a raccoon who, it is certainly our intention, will steal the whole movie.”

Fiege also has a few words about Ant-Man, saying that later this year they’ll be refining the script of the Edgar Wright movie to tie it into the Marvel cinematic universe.

Thor: The Dark World Teaser Trailer – Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston return to Asgard

April 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the release of Iron Man 3 in some parts of the world this week, Marvel is introducing us the next part of their Phase 2 onslaught – Thor: The Dark World. Interestingly, while some weren’t big fans of the Asgardian parts of the first Thor film, Marvel isn’t shying away from that part of Thor-lore. It seems the sequel will only be on Earth for a bit, so that Thor can pick up Natalie Portman and take her to Asgard.

Indeed, the sequel suggests they’re beefing up to sword and sorcery side of the superhero, with the whole thing feeling rather Arthurian. Many will also be pleased to see that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is back too, and as he’s become a bit of a fan favourite, it’ll be interesting to see if they try to make him a bit more of a hero this time around.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

‘Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery “ #83 in August, 1962.’

The film will hit UK cinemas October 30th.

Chris Hemsworth Brings The Hotness In First Thor: The Dark World Poster

April 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

thor-the-dark-world-poster
Chris Hemsworth had a lot of competition in The Avengers for who was the hottest superhero, but the first poster for Thor: The Dark World shows he’s going to be looking real good when he goes it alone once more.

It’s a great first look at the movie, although it does suggest Thor’s going to be having some weather related problems.

The film arrives in cinemas this November, and sees Thor once more having to show off his power when Asgard comes under threat from the Dark Elves, with Maliketh (Christopher Eccleston) and Algrim/Kurse (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) causing the trouble. Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston also star. (Poster via ScreenCrush)

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Getting Villainous In Thor 2

August 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Another British actor has joined the cast of Thor: The Dark World, as Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has signed on to play the villain Algrim the Strong and Kurse, according to Variety.

Algrim the Strong was the most powerful of the Dark Elves who is convinced by his leader, Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston), to battle the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth). After being defeated by Thor and betrayed by Malekith, he is transformed into a much more powerful entity dubbed Kurse. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is best known for playing Mr. Eko on Lost, and has also appeared in Killer Elite, The Thing, and Faster, and will be seen early next year in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor is taking the helm on this superhero sequel, working from a screenplay by Don Payne (Thor). The film will shot in the UK later this year.

Kat Dennings Back For Thor: The Dark World

August 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Kat Denning appeared as Darcy Lewis in Thor, she didn’t have a huge amount to do. However now Deadline says she’ll be back for Thor: The Dark World, with a slightly expanded role this time around.

It isn’t known exactly how Denning will fit into the movie, as there hasn’t been much official word on the plot of the movie. However it’s due to shoot this autumn, with Alan Taylor directing from a script by Robert Rodat, meaning Dennings will have to work around shooting on her sitcom, 2 Broke Girls.

Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins,Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard and Ray Stevenson will all return for the film, with Christopher Ecclestone recently signing up to play the villain.

Christopher Eccleston May Go Villainous For Thor: The Dark World

August 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Christopher Eccleston is one of those actors who always seems like they could have had a bigger share of fame, but for whatever reason decided to have an interesting and varied career rather than going all-out for the a-list. However now he’s up for a major movie role, as THR reports he’s up for a villainous part in Thor: The Dark World, which would mark his first movie since 2009’s Amelia.

Mads Mikkelsen was all set to play the part, however he had to drop out due to his commitments to the new Hannibal Lecter television show he’s set to star in. Little is known about the plot of the film, but the title could suggest that a good deal of the action could be set in the world of Svartalfheim and there are rumours the central villain would be Malekith The Accursed, the leader of the Dark Elves (which is who Eccleston would be playing if he signs on).

Shooting will begin this autumn, ahead of release on November 8th, 2013

Have The Villains Of Thor 2 Been Revealed?

July 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last weekend, Marvel released a lot of news about their upcoming movies, but while they announced the sequel to Thor would be callled Thor: The Dark World, they didn’t have much to say about the plot. However now it appears we know who the villains are for the film, which begins shooting this August.

The movie is said to have to have a stronger Norse influence, and will have a very ‘Viking’ centric vibe. Mads Mikkelsen was originally set to play the villain, but recently dropped out. While we don’t know who is replacing him just yet, we now have an idea about whom he was set to play. In an interview with I Review Too that dates back to early June (dug up by Comic Book Movie), stuntman James Grogan let it slip that Thor will be going up against the Dark Elves of Svartlalfheim in the movie. Which makes sense, considering the new title revealed during Comic-Con 2012.

Here is what Grogan had to say, “The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor: The Dark World. I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it.”

This has led to speculation that Mads Mikkelsen was cast to play Malekith The Accursed, ruler of the Dark Elves, and a not very friendly guy. This blue, pointed-eared villain has super human strength and speed, along with the ability to teleport and project energy. Malekith’s biggest storyline in the comics finds him teaming up with Loki to retrieve the Casket of Ancient Winters, which allows its user to control the icy weather conditions on Niflheim. It also makes its user younger.

Of course, this plotline has not yet been confirmed by the studio. Thor: The Dark World comes to theaters November 8th, 2013.

Mads Mikkelsen Up For Thor 2 Baddie

May 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Casino Royale’s Danish bad guy Mads Mikkelsen, is in talks to play a bad guy in Thor 2, according to Variety, although at the moment there’s no news on exactly what character he might be playing.

We do know he’ll be a villain, but at the moment we don’t know who. If you’re worried this means there won’t be any Loki in the movie, don’t worry, there will be, but it appears he’ll have help causing trouble from Mikkelsen. Marevel has suggested it will be a pretty big role, upping the ante on the issues ol’ Thor has to deal with.

The film is scheduled for release November 15th, 2013, and should shoot later this summer

Saving Private Ryan Writer Reworking Thor 2

January 11, 2012 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Thor 2 is already on its third director, but assuming Game Of Thrones helmer Alan Taylor stays the course, things are moving ahead for a summer shoot, with a late 2013 release date already set for the superhero follow-up.

Now the script is getting a bit of a rewrite, as according to Deadline Robert Rodat has been hired to give things a bit of a punch up. He’s best known for scripting Saving Private Ryan, but he also has credits on films such as Fly Away Home and The Patriot, and created the TV series Falling Skies.

Rodat will now be polishing the script (originally written by Don Payne), but we don’t have any info of what direction the post-Avengers story will be taking. Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman should both be back to star.
