There’s been plenty of talk about multiple villains in The Amazing Spider-man 2, but the marketing is certainly selling it as a showdown between Spidey and Electro. That’s certainly true of a trio of new posters that have been released, which you can see above and below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

‘It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.’

The movie is due in cinemas this April.

If there’s something we can take away from these brand new posters, it’s that Electro in The Amazing Spider-man 2 seems to be stuck in one position, as he’s exactly the same no matter where he and Spider are. Presumably in the film he’ll be more active and won’t simply float around with one leg slightly bent all the time.

Other than that they’re pretty cool and suitably comic-infused images, which its nice to see are selling the colour of the movie, rather than following the gloomy Dark Knight inspired imagery other superhero movies have gone for.

With a trailer due tomorrow, Sony Pictures is really amping up the promotion of The Amazing Spider-man. Yesterday we has a synopsis and poster, and today is a quintet of rather cool new images. Take a look at them below along with comments from director Marc Webb.

Spidey Vs. Electro – “We wanted some theatricality for this villain. What makes him interesting is the really ironic evolution of the character. He starts off as Spider-Man’s biggest fan and ends up being Spider-Man’s biggest foe.”

“We shot his exterior and then created a glowing light source that is buried deep within his core that exudes and generates electric light. If you look at a cloud when a thunderstorm is coming and the lightning is within that cloud, we use that as a natural inspiration for the character.”
