Colossal Trailer – Anne Hathaway discovers she’s mentally linked to a monster attack

February 18, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Colossal debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival, it got a bit of a mixed reaction, partially because it seemed some critics didn’t quite know what to make of it. Now a trailer has arrived, which suggests that perhaps they can’t be blamed for being a little perplexed, as it looks like a strange one.

Anne Hathaway plays Gloria, an ordinary woman who, after losing her job and her fiancé (Dan Stevens), decides to leave her life in New York to move back to her hometown. But when news reports surface that a giant lizard is destroying Seoul, Gloria comes to realise that she is connected to these far-off events via the power of her mind. In order to prevent further destruction, Gloria needs to determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world.

And as this trailer shows, that’s when it gets really bizarre.

Jason Sudeikis also stars, with Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes) directing. Take a look below. [Read more…]

Dan Stevens Will Be Colossal Opposite Anne Hathaway In The Arthouse Monster Movie

October 26, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dan-stevensA while ago Anne Hathaway signed up to star in the arthouse monster movie Colossal, and now she’s got some company, as Variety reports that Dan Stevens has signed up to co-star.

Since Hathaway attached herself in May, the film has had a little trouble, with Japanese Godzilla studio, Toho, suing the makers over similarities to their property (not helped by comparisons the filmmakers themselves made). However now it seems to be moving forwards.

The film will see Hathaway as Gloria, an ordinary woman who, after losing her job and her fiancé, decides to leave her life in New York to move back to her hometown. But when news reports surface that a giant lizard is destroying Seoul (which was previously Tokyo, so the makers do seem to be deliberately moving away from Godzilla), Gloria gradually comes to realize that she is strangely connected to these far-off events via the power of her mind. In order to prevent further destruction, Gloria needs to determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world.

Stevens will be the former boyfriend who ends up wanting her back.

Timecrimes and Open Windows director Nacho Vigalondo is set to direct the movie, which is already shooting.

Anne Hathaway Will Be Colossal, In An Arthouse Monster Movie

May 12, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

anne-hathawayDon’t worry, we’re not in any way being rude about her weight, as Anne Hathaway is only planning to be Colossal in a new movie, as THR reports that she’s attached to a film of that name from Timecrimes and Open Windows director Nacho Vigalondo.

It appears it’s going to be a somewhat unusual movie, as it’s described as being Godzilla meets Lost in Translation, quite how that’s going to work is anyone’s guess, as previously those two movie’s biggest connection is that they’re both set in Japan.

The film will see Hathaway as ‘Gloria, an ordinary woman who, after losing her job and her fiancé, decides to leave her life in New York to move back to her hometown. But when news reports surface that a giant lizard is destroying the city of Tokyo, Gloria gradually comes to realize that she is strangely connected to these far-off events via the power of her mind. In order to prevent further destruction, Gloria needs to determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world.’

It appears that this will be arthouse kaiju, as it’s also compared to being like ‘Transformers versus Adaptation’.

Vigalondo comments, “Colossal is my most ambitious script so far, and probably also the most personal one. Having Anne and this terrific team around goes beyond my craziest expectations.”
