The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death (DVD Review)

July 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Phoebe Fox, Jeremy Irvine, Helen McRory
Director: Tom Harper
Running Time: 94 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 13th 2015 (UK)

The Woman In Black surprised nearly everyone when it became the most successful horror movie ever at the British box office. Due to the fact it was such a huge hit, it’s not surprising a sequel has emerged, complete with a story by Susan Hill who wrote the original Woman In Black novel.

Things have moved on though, as Angel Of Death is set 40 years after the original during the Second World War, when a group of evacuees and their teachers, Jean Hogg (Helen McCrory) and Eve Parkins (Phoebe Fox), are sent to the countryside and move into the dilapidated Eel Marsh House – the setting of the first tale. Unsurprisingly this awakens the evil, ghostly presence that resides there, which seems particularly interested in young Edward (Oaklee Pednergast), who is traumatised and mute following the death of his parents in the Blitz. Hammer and eOne have announced that The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death has begun shooting, and with it they’ve released the first couple of stills from the film, featuring Phoebe Fox, Jeremy Irvine and Helen McCrory.

The film went into development shortly after the Daniel Radcliffe starring The Woman In Black became the highest grossing horror movie in UK history and made over $130 million around the globe. Susan Hill (who wrote the original novel) then came up with an original story idea, with Jon Croker handling the screenplay. Tom Harper directs.

The film will continue the story four decades after the first film. After it is seized by the government during World War II, the sudden arrival of a group of evacuated children at Eel Marsh House awakens its darkest inhabitant.

The film’s due out in the UK on February 2015.

Tom Harper To Helm The Woman in Black: Angels of Death

October 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Anyone who enjoyed the creepy chills of The Woman In Black may be wondering how a sequel would work, but after the $130 million plus success of the movie, it’s little wonder Hammer Films wants a follow-up. They’ve been working on the film ever since Woman In Black was released, working from a story idea by Susan Hill (who wrote the original novel), with Jon Croker handling the screenplay.

Now the movie has found a director, with Tom Harper signing up to helm the movie, which will be called The Woman in Black: Angels of Death. The film will continue the story four decades later. Seized by the government during World War II, the sudden arrival of a group of evacuated children at Eel Marsh House awakens its darkest inhabitant. Although there could possibly be room for some sort of Daniel Radcliffe appearance, it’s looking likely he won’t be involved.

BAFTA-nominated Harper (The Scouting Book for Boys, Misfits) sommented, “I am thrilled to be a part of The Woman in Black:Angel of Death. This will be a great opportunity for me to collaborate with a brilliantly talented team on the next installment in this exciting series.”
