Big Hero 6 Sizzle Reel – A great new look at the Disney-Marvel animation

October 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

big-hero-6-pic3Big Hero 6 certainly seems like it’s going to be something a little different from Disney Animation, which perhaps isn’t too much of a surprising considering it’s based on a Marvel property. It’s only a few weeks until it’s released in the US, and so the House Of Mouse decided New York Comic Con would be a good place to show off some new footage.

And now the Sizzle Reel has been released for us all to take a look at, where you can really feel the fusion of Disney, Marvel and Japanese influences, not least the work of Hayao Miyazaki.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘With all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action, “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”). The film hits UK cinemas in 3D in January 2015.’

Big Hero 6 Trailer – Best look yet at the Disney and Marvel fusion

July 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

big-hero-6-pic1While Disney has largely let Marvel do its thing on the live action front, they have been looking at ways of bringing the characters into their other properties, such as a Marvel-themed episode of Phineas & Ferb. The biggest fusion yet though is Big Hero 6, a Disney animated movie based on a Marvel comic.

Now we can get our best look yet with a new trailer.

Marvel & Disney’s Big Hero 6 Adds Adds Bolt Director Chris Williams

January 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

When Disney bought Marvel, a lot of pessimists thought this would mean lots of cutesy animated movies based on the company’s characters. However the only direct collaboration with Disney Animation announced so far is Big Hero 6 – certainly not the most famous of properties.

Now it’s been announced that Chris Williams, who wrote and directed Disney’s Bolt, has signed on to co-direct Big Hero 6 alongside Don Hall.

The Marvel comics follow robotics expert Hiro Hamada, who teams up with a robot named Baymax, and a host of other characters such as Gogo, Honey Lemon, sushi chef Wasabi and fanboy Fred. The movie is based on Marvel’s six-issue mini-series, which was inspired by Japanese manga comics and centers on a group of state-sanctioned superheroes who are at the Japanese government’s disposal.

Don Hall wrote the script, based on Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle’s comic book. Disney has set a November 7th, 2014 US release date, although as a new director is coming in and no voice cast has been announced, that date may well slip.

Marvel & Disney Animation Team For Big Hero 6

May 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Disney bought Marvel, one of the first things many people wondered was whether the studio would rifle through the comic company’s back catalogue for possible animated project. It’s taken them a while, but now Disney Animation has revealed its first official Marvel collaboration, Big Hero 6. They’ve even released the first footage and a couple of concept pics for us to take a look at.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Big Hero 6,” an action comedy adventure about brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. With the help of his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action and all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the CG-animated “Big Hero 6” hits US theaters in 3D on November 7, 2014.’
