Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain & Tom Hiddleston Go Gothic In A New Crimson Peak Poster

August 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

crimson-peak-poster2Everything we’ve seen for Guillermo Del Toro’s haunted house tale, Crimson Peak, has been impressively gothic, and that’s certainly true of the new poster that’s been released and which you can see above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Legendary Pictures’ Crimson Peak, a co-production with Universal Pictures, is a haunting gothic horror story directed by the master of dark fairy tales, Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series, Pacific Rim), written by del Toro, Matthew Robbins and Lucinda Coxon and starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam.

‘In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.’

It’ll be in cinemas in October.

crimson-peak-pic2Normally you can’t keep Guillermo Del Toro from talking about his movies, but he’s been a tiny bit more secretive with Crimson Peak. But the shades of his haunted house are being pulled back with a new trailer.

As you’d expect from the director it certainly looks stylish with Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam and Mia Wasikowska getting a little creepy.

First Pic Of Jessica Chastain In Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak

December 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

crimson-peak-jessica-chastainGuillermo Del Toro is certainly taking his time with Crimson Peak. The movie shot early this year but won’t be in cinemas until October 2015. However we now get our first look at the movie courtesy of an image of Jessica Chastain that appears in the latest issue of EW.

Few story details have been released, beyond that young author Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowksa) discovers that her charming new husband Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) is not who he appears to be and has plenty of secrets. Chastain plays Sharpe’s sister, Lucille, while Charlie Hunnam is Dr. Alan McMichael.

As you can see from the pic, it’s a rather gothic affair and it appears it’ll be shot through with Del Toro’s unique style.

Tom Hiddleston Is Going To Crimson Peak, Replacing Benedict Cumberbatch

September 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-hiddlestonA few days ago, Benedict Cumberbatch dropped out of Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming Crimson Peak. The director and Legendary Pictures have moved fast to find a replacement – even though it doesn’t start shooting until next February – as Tom Hiddleston has stepped in to the vacant role.

Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska are also attached to star in this haunted house thriller, although no specific story or character details have been revealed at this time. Del Toro has promised it will be scary and very different from any of his English-language films.

Benedict Cumberbatch Out Of Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak

August 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benedict-Cumberbatch-sherlock
When Guillermo Del Toro started casting Crimson Peak earlier this year it surprised many as the movie isn’t due to shoot until next year. While he’d signed Charlie Hunnam and Jessica Chastain, his gambit of getting actors early hasn’t completely paid off with one star, as Benedict Cumberbatch has exited the movie, according to THR.

He’s the second actor to bail, as in June Emma Stone bailed and has since been replaced by Mia Wasikowska.

Cumberbatch signed up in April, but now he’s out, with Legendary Pictures and Del Toro currently seeking a replacement for the Star Trek Into Darkness. The film is scheduled to begin production in February.

Guillermo del Toro is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Matthew Robbins and Lucinda Coxon. The project is said to revolve around a haunted house, but no specific story details have been confirmed. It’ll start shooting next February.

Jessica Chastain Up For Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak

April 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jessica-ChastainEven though it’s not likely to start shooting until early next year, Guillermo Del Toro is pulling together a great cast for Crimson Peak. He’s already got Emma Stone, Charlie Hunnam, and Benedict Cumberbatch onboard, and now Variety reports that Zero Dark Thirty star Jessica Chastain is in final talks to join the cast.

Not too much is known about the movie, although it is known that it takes place in the early 1900s, with half of the movie set in the US and the rest in a decaying mansion in Cumbria in North West England. Del Toro has also described is as a ghost story and a gothic romance.

As with the other actors, not specific details are known about the character Chastain will be playing. Guillermo del Toro is directing from a screenplay he is co-writing with British playwright Lucinda Clarkson.

Benedict Cumberbatch Joins Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak

April 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benedict-Cumberbatch-sherlockBritain’s Benedict Cumberbatch is likely to become a much bigger international star in the next few months thanks to his villainous role in Star Trek Into Darkness, and now he’s got another major project, as he has joined the cast of Crimson Peak for director Guillermo del Toro, according to Variety.

Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam are already attached to star in this haunted house thriller. Del Toro previously revealed a little bit about the film, saying, “It’s the turn of the century. So it’s at the turn of the century and half of the movie takes place in America, and the other half takes place in a crumbling mansion in Cumbria. And basically it’s a ghost story and gothic romance, trying to subvert the rules of the usual gothic romance. The first half is a love story, then that love story turns darker. And it’s at the same time a ghost story. I’m working at this moment with who is a really great playwright from the UK. She has the proper degree of perversity and intelligence to turn it into something interesting to watch. It’s sort of a very compelling version of the classic gothic romance, where you have the spookiness and the windswept landscape that dooms the characters, you know?”

It’s not known exactly who Cumberbatch will play. Del Toro is getting his cast sorted early, as production isn’t slated to start until February 2014.

Charlie Hunnam May Reunite With Guillermo Del Toro For Crimson Peak

January 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Charlie-HunnamGuillermo Del Toro must be impressed with Charlie Hunnam’s work on the upcoming Pacific Rim, as he’s already hoping to reunite with the British Son Of Anarchy actor for his next movie, Crimson Peak, according to Variety.

A few days ago it was revealed that Emma Stone is in early talks to star, although neither acting has signed on the dotted line. De Toro is trying to get the main cast set early, as he doesn’t plan to shoot the movie until early 2014.

No story details have been released for the movie, although Del Toro has previously described it as “A very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.” He has also compared it to Robert Wise’s The Haunting.

Guillermo del Toro is rewriting the screenplay with Lucinda Coxon, working from an original draft by Matthew Robbins.
