Disobedience Trailer – Rachel McAdams & Rachel Weisz are forbidden lovers in the lesbian themed movie

February 4, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s not easy for Rachel McAdams & Rachel Weisz in Disobedience, where they play women whose love would be vigorously condemned by the Orthdox Jewish community they come from. The movie is based on Naomi Alderman’s novel, with Sebastian Lelio directing. The lesbian-themed movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to pretty good review, which praised the acting and how heartfelt the somewhat melancholic movie is.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Happily single and living a rich life as a photographer in New York, Ronit (Rachel Weisz) is very much the black sheep of her London-based Orthodox Jewish family. When her revered rabbi father dies, Ronit returns home to pay her respects and liquidate her inheritance. But surprises await, chief among them the news that Dovid (Alessandro Nivola) — the heir apparent to Ronit’s father and very much the son he never had — has married Ronit’s childhood friend Esti (Rachel McAdams). While Dovid prepares to take over the hallowed place at the synagogue, Ronit and Esti become reacquainted. An old flame is reignited — one that could torch everything this family most cherishes.’

Disobedience is due out in the US in April. An August UK release is currently set, but take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Rachel McAdams & Rachel Weisz Take On The Lesbian-Themed Disobedience

October 4, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rachel-mcadamsCate Blanchett and Rooney Mara has great success with the lesbian-themed love story Carol, and now two other actresses are taking up the mantle, as Variety reports that Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz are set to star in Disobedience.

Based on Naomi Alderman’s book, Disobedience, ‘follows a young woman (Weisz) who returns to her Orthodox Jewish home after learning about the death of her estranged father. She causes an upheaval in the quiet community when she rekindles a repressed love with her best friend – a woman now married to her cousin. McAdams will play the best friend in the pic.’

It certainly looks like we’ll be back in the territory of forbidden desires, sexual angst and hidden passions. Sebastian Lelio is set to direct the film, based on a script he co-wrote with Rebecca Lenkiewicz. It’s expected to start shooting early next year.

McAdams previously starred in the lesbian-themed Passion, although that thriller, from director Brian de Palma, found little success. Hopefully Disobedience will find a bit more of an audience.
