EastSiders: Season 3 Trailer – Kit Williamson & Van Hansis return in the gay-themed series

October 20, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Few gay themed web series have seen the success of Eastsiders. Indeed, it’s difficult to really call it a web series, as while it started on Youtube, it’s since made its way to TV and DVD, got pulled together into a film, had a very successful second season, and scored a couple of Daytime Emmy nominations. And now it’s coming back for a third season.

The trailer for that third instalment has now arrived. In the new season, familiar faces such as Kit Williamson and Van Hansis will be joined this time around by the likes of COnstance Wu, Willam Belli, Stephen Guarino, Colby Keller and WIlson Cruz.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Season 2 of the Daytime Emmy nominated series “EastSiders,” (Outstanding Digital Daytime Drama Series) left Cal (Kit Williamson) and Thom (Van Hansis, Daytime Emmy nominee for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Digital Daytime Drama Series) determined to make things work, despite some confusing developments in their newly monogomish relationship.

‘After a challenging year in New York City, the guys hit the road back wet to Los Angeles to pick up the pieces of their old life, but nothing can prepare them for the unexpected twists and turns they’ll face on the journey home. As they travel west, their tumultuous relationship is tested by an empty bank account, arguments about the future and an encounter with a handsome drifter that tempts them to once again redraw the map of their relationship. Will this be the trip of their lives, or the end of the road?’

“It’s been a whirlwind year shooting the new season of EastSiders on location in 16 states, and we’re beyond excited to share six new episodes with everyone this November,” Williamson comments (via EW), “It’s also been incredible to take the show on the road and meet so many fans at festivals across the country, and we are thrilled to bring an exclusive preview screening of the first episode to NewFest in New York this Saturday.”

The first episode screens as part of New York’s Newfest on October 21st, with everyone else getting to see it when it’s released on various digital platforms (iTunes, Google Play etc.) and DVD from October 28th. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Gay Series Eastsiders, Starring Kit Williamson & Van Hansis, Heads To Kickstarter To Fund Season 3

May 17, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Eastsiders has been a great success, starting off as a web series before eventually being picked up by the likes of Logo TV and now streaming on Netflix, as well as scoring a couple of Emmy nominations. However, that doesn’t suddenly mean those behind the show are rolling around in cash, and so they’ve launched a Kickstarter to get Season 3 of the show completed.

Five and the six new episodes of the show, which charts the ups and downs of the lives of Cal (Kit Williamsson – who also created and writes the show) and Thom (Van Hansis), with the show kicking off its first Season just as their relationship went through a huge crisis due to infidelity. So what’s happening next?

According to the Kickstarter page, ‘Season two of “EastSiders: The Series” left Cal and Thom determined to make things work, despite some confusing developments in their newly monogomish relationship. After a challenging year in New York City, the guys hit the road back west to Los Angeles to pick up the pieces of their old life, but nothing can prepare them for the unexpected twists and turns they’ll face on the journey home. Season three was shot on location in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada and (of course) California! Driving across the country with a crew has to be one of the craziest thing we’ve ever done, but the end result will be unlike anything you’ve seen on the web. The Great American Road Trip is about to get a lot gayer!’

Along with Hansis and Williamson, the rest of the cast is also returning, including Matthew McKelligon (Int. Leather Bar, You’re Killing Me), John Halbach (Wallflowers), Traci Lords (Cry Baby, Zach and Miri Make a Porno) and Constance Wu (Fresh Off the Boat, Crazy Rich Asians), as well as season two cast members Brianna Brown (Devious Maids), Stephen Guarino (Happy Endings, I’m Dying Up Here) and drag sensation Willam (Nip/Tuck, Rupaul’s Drag Race). There will of course also be some new cast members, who’ll be announced in the coming weeks.

Take a look at the crowdfunding video below, and then head over to Kickstarter to help out. [Read more…]

Firefly’s Sean Maher & Actress Traci Lords Join Eastsiders LGBT Web Series

A couple of weeks ago we reported that the US LGBT-focussed TV network, Logo, had picked up the web series Eastsiders, premièring the first three of the nine episodes of the first season on Tuesday, April 23rd at 4pm ET on LogoTV.com. The first episode actually showed up on Youtube before Christmas (it’s since been removed), which led to a successful Kickstarter campaign and the Logo pick-up.

Now a couple of new guest stars have been announced. Gay Icon Traci Lords (Zack and Miri Make a Porno) will pop up in Episode 4 as Cal’s outspoken mother Val, while sexy out gay actor Sean Maher (Firefly, The Playboy Club) has a recurring role as Paul, a handsome gallery owner.

The series follows Cal (Kit Williamson), who finds out Thom (soap star Van Hansis) has been cheating on him with Jeremy (Matthew McKelligon), which turns their relationship upside down. Cal’s best friend Kathy (Constance Wu) is always there for him with a bottle of whiskey in her purse, but she has her own problems with her nice guy boyfriend Ian (John Halbach), even if they’re all in her head. Will the lies tear them apart or are they just stubborn enough to stay together forever?  Drunken outbursts and double standards abound in this dark comedy about the sad and funny messes we make out of our lives.

Other guest stars include Brea Grant (Heroes, Dexter), Stephen Guarino (Logo’s The Big Gay Sketch Show) and David Blue (Stargate Universe, Ugly Betty). As well as playing Cal, Kit Williamson also writes and directs Eastsiders.

Eastsiders LGBT Web Series Gets Picked Up By Logo TV

April 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

It’s fast seeming that the internet is where it’s at to find find interesting gay projects, with a number of well-written and made web series springing up. Last December the first episode of Eastsiders appeared online, followed swiftly by a Kickstarter to get more of the series made.

The TV networks now keep a close eye of the web and so LGBT-focussed Logo TV has now picked Eastsiders and will air the first three episodes online starting April 23rd. (Incidentally, because of this, the first episode that was previously available on Youtube has now been made private, unfortunately).

Logo has previously snapped up web series such as Hunting Season and Vicky & Lysander.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘What happens after the world ends? Written and directed by award winning playwright Kit Williamson, “EastSiders” explores the aftermath of infidelity on a gay couple in Silverlake. When Cal (Kit Williamson) finds out Thom (Van Hansis) has been cheating on him with Jeremy (Matthew McKelligon), their relationship is turned upside down. Will the lies tear them apart or are they just stubborn enough to stay together forever?

‘Drunken outbursts and double standards abound in this dark comedy about the sad and funny messes we make out of our lives. Cal’s best friend Kathy (Constance Wu) is always there for him with a bottle of whiskey in her purse, but she has her own problems with her nice guy boyfriend Ian (John Halbach), even if they’re all in her head. Stephen Guarino guest stars as a party promoter throwing one last bash before the apocalypse.’

Take a look at an update about the series from As The World Turns actor Van Hansis, who tells us a little bit more about the show.

Eastsiders Gay-themed Web Series Launches Kickstarter Campaign

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In December we posted the first episode of a great looking new web-series called Eastsiders, which we’ve embedded it again above, along with the second episode (which will play after the first). Now the people behind the series are looking for cash to complete the first season of nine 10-15 minute episodes, and have set up a Kickstarter campaign to raise $15,000.

In only a couple of days, they’ve already raised $8,500 of their target, but every penny the make above the $15,000 target will be used in making the series better, so it’s worth helping out if you want to see more.

Here’s the series’ set-up, ‘Set in Los Angeles’ iconic Silver Lake, Eastsiders follows a couple: Cal and Thom. They have problems. It’s some really dramatic stuff. Thom is cheating on Cal. Cal knows, but can’t bear the thought of losing Thom. Oh yeah, and they’re gay, if you haven’t already figured that out. But that’s not a problem.’ Soap star Van Hansis, who has been nominated for three Daytime Emmies, plays one half of the gay couple, opposite series creator Kit Williamson.

Eastsiders certainly got off to a great start with is first couple of episodes, showing that the web isn’t just a place for silliness and that there’s an audience for well written drama about interesting subjects. We’d certainly like to see more of the show, so hopefully the Kickstarter will go well.
