Popular Web Series My Gay Roommate Needs Your Help To Fund A Sitcom Pilot

September 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

my-gay-roommate-reloadedNoam Ash and Austin Bening’s web series My Gay Roommate has gathered a huge following on Youtube, thanks to the fun it has with its culture clash between gay and straight, and often oddly surreal touches. However, while we haven’t had any new episodes for a while (following the end of the third season), Ash and co. have big plans.

They’re hoping to reimagine and expand the show from 10-minute snippets into a half-hour sitcom format. In this new incarnation, ‘Nick and Max are roommates at Tuffet University, a classic liberal arts college complete with battalions of student groups, over-achieving freshmen, upperclassmen burnouts and the self-righteous indignation that characterizes Northeastern academia.

Nick Cohen is a newly out Jewish boy with OCD tendencies, while his roommate Max Finnegan is a broad-shouldered slob who may or may not have peaked in high school. Our unlikely duo takes on a freshman year full of firsts with a rascally band of suitemates: Rupert (an effeminate ladies man), his roommate Dom (the star linebacker) and Ernie (a techie Japanophile). They are joined by Sloane, Max’s no-bullshit upperclassman love interest, and her misanthropic roommate Mildred who become part of the crew.

‘The world of My Gay Roommate flips the social paradigm: being gay is not an issue, the football players are the underdogs while the a capella singers are the popular kids, the frat boys are the tame and rule-abiding students while the Women’s Rugby Team is the drug dealing muscle.

‘In this way, the show moves past the cliche gay-best-friend-side-kick and homophobic-straight-man relationship we see so often. My Gay Roommate presents a way of life that’s a little more 2016 – where a gay guy and straight guy are just friends. Best friends.’

A Kickstarter has been launched hoping to raise $65,000 to fund the pilot of the show, which they’re hoping will be the first of 10 new episodes. Take a look at the promo video below, and if you like what you see, head over to Kickstarter. You can also find find episodes of the web series by clicking here. [Read more…]

My Gay Roommate – Season 3, Ep 7: Partners In Crime – It’s time for a musical finale

October 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

my-gay-roommate-s3-ep7I have to say I suspected that My Gay Roommate would go off the boil with Season 3, mainly as Nick getting a new roommate seemed to be a major change that could have easily ruined things. Instead though it’s been better than it ever has, with plenty of wit, wonderful surreal moments and an often surprisingly smart take on modern gay/straight life.

However now it’s time to bid the show farewell for a while, as the final episode of Season 3 is here.

And it’s time for gay Nick and straight Ed to take stock – with all the madness that’s been going on around them, they haven’t really had time to think about whether living together is working out. But when their S&M ‘monster’ leaves, they have to decide whether they should remain roomies and that if they do, perhaps together they could both reach new heights.

And there’s even time for a musical number!

Take a look at the new episode below, and you can catch up on the rest of Season 3 by clicking here. [Read more…]

My Gay Roommate – Season 3, Ep 6: Coital Logistics – The gay web series has bedroom issues

August 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

my-gay-roommate-s3-ep6My Gay Roommate is great fun, with this latest season following Nick (Noam Ash) and his new roomie, Ed. However that’s not all, as the slightly surreal show has also had a cowboy coming out and getting into bed with our plucky hero.

However not everything is perfect with the lovers, as we see in the latest episode, Coital Logistics. And to sort it out they call on insanely hot porn star Levi Michaels.

Noam Ash told Huffpo, “In this episode Nick and the Cowboy are having some incompatibilities in the bedroom. Convinced he has the answers, Ed prepares a lecture on proper intimacy techniques and male coital logistics aided by none other than Levi Michaels himself, who reveals the science behind being a superstar power bottom and bestows his sexy Rounderbum undies on Nick. But things don’t go as planned, and the roommates find themselves tied and gagged as one of the characters gives the boys a final talking to.”

My Gay Roommate – Season 3, Ep 5: All Good Things – Check out the latest instalment of the web series

June 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

my-gay-roommate-s3-ep5The extremely fun May Gay Roommate returns with the entertaining fifth instalment of the third season.

There have been plenty of changes for Nick (Noam Ash) this season, not least finding a new straight roommate and moving in with him. Then there’s been all the frankly fantastical things happening around them, including the coming out of a cowboy and Nick subsequently having to deal with the morning after.

As actor and co-creator Noam Ash told HuffPo, “With the help of King George Michael and some Macarena, Nick helps Ed cope with lady problems from the past and find some faith. Gay pop stars DO solve everything! Ed makes a big decision, and we bid farewell to one of our imaginary characters. All good things, you know?”

My Gay Roommate – Season 3, Ep 4: Touched By An Angel – What happened after the coming out?

May 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At the end of Season 3, Episode 3 of My Gay Roommate, there was a bit of a surprise when one of the characters came out and pounced on our intrepid homo hero Nick.

Now it’s time to see what happened next, which starts out with a bit of morning after glow.

But how will Nick’s new roomie Ed handle the fact that his room-mate and his cowboy friend are now bum chums?

There’s a bit of tension, but there’s also plenty of time for silliness, the slightly surreal and an appearance by Tony Award Winner Wilson Jermaine Heredia.

Take a look at the new episode above. [Read more…]

My Gay Roommate – Season 3, Ep 3: Coming Out – Things are getting slightly surreal and sexy

March 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

My Gay Roommate is a lot of fun. The web series could have gone off the boil with Season 3, when Nick had to find a new roomie, but it’s actually gone from strength to strength.

Now he’s all moved in and it’s time for some revelations, not least that new roommate Ed has some rather unusual friends. There’s also time for a silver daddy sheriff (with the episode getting a slightly surreal western edge) and some rather hot underwear yoga.

And as the title of the episode someone is coming out. We won’t say which of the characters are involved, but if you’re a fan of man-on-man lip smacking, make sure you watch through right to the end.

We can’t wait for episode 4 when we’ll find out what happens next! [Read more…]

My Gay Roommate – Season 3, Ep 2: The Bigger Man

February 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago we posted the first episode of Season 3 of My Gay Roommate, and this time around Nick was looking for a new roomie. It seemed his search had come to an end by the end that episode, and now it’s time for the story to move on.

Now Nick has to negotiate the difficulties of living with someone new – especially a straight guy for whom tidiness is not a top priority (and who also has his own big, hairy bear).

Take a look at the new episode above. [Read more…]

January 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The web series My Gay Roommate has centred ‘on the unique relationship forged between a straight boy from Ohio and his very gay freshman roommate. Now the first episode of the third series has arrived, which sees Nick looking for a new roomie in New York, as he tries out the ‘contestants’ for the role.

Take a look at the first episode of Season 3 above and see who he ends up living with. [Read more…]
