Wyatt Earp has long fascinated filmmakers. Actors from Burt Lancaster and James Stewart to Kurt Russell and Kevin Costner have played the legendary gunfighter, but no portrayal is more definitive that Henry Fonda’s in My Darling Clementine.

John Ford’s first Western since his seminal Stagecoach, My Darling Clementine ranks among the director’s finest. Telling the story of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, and the friendship between Earp and Doc Holliday, Ford renders this famous tale into a lyrical masterpiece, filmed in his beloved Monument Valley and full of iconic moments.

Win The Supernatural Horror I Am Not A Serial Killer On Blu-ray, Plus A Balaclava!

February 19, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

To celebrate the home entertainment release of I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER, ON BLU-RAY, DVD & VOD 20 FEBRUARY, AND AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD NOW, we have a copy of the film on Blu-ray, and a panda balaclava, courtesy of Bulldog Films Distribution!

A dazzlingly original, darkly funny and disturbing gem with a genre-bending twist, about a small town teenager in the US, obsessed with serial killers, who unwittingly discovers the identity of the killer who has been slaughtering residents for body parts.

Featuring a star-making lead performance from 17-year-old Max Records, and an extraordinary turn from Back To The Future’s legendary Christopher Lloyd, I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER is the most sheerly entertaining and audaciously offbeat offering since Donnie Darko hit cinema screens.

A big hit when it premiered at the South By Southwest Film Festival in March, and was a must-see film at the prestigious BFI London Film Festival. It proves that left field indie cinema is alive and kicking, even if the Clayton County killer’s victims aren’t. “Hit the switch John…”

Win Vincent Price In Roger Corman’s Tower Of London On DVD/Blu-ray Double Play!

February 14, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

To celebrate the release of Tower of London – out Dual Format 13th Feb. 2017 – we are giving away a copy courtesy of Arrow Video!

Having made their mark on American horror cinema with three colourful adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe – The Fall of the House of Usher, Pit and the Pendulum and Tales of Terror – Vincent Price and director Roger Corman enjoyed a brief hiatus from the macabre author with Tower of London. Shot in black and white, the film was loosely based on the Universal horror picture of the same name as well as two Shakespeare plays: a dash of Macbeth and a dollop of Richard III.

Price plays Richard of Gloucester, brother to a dying king and eager to take his place on the throne. When he is overlooked in favour of their sibling, the Duke of Clarence, things take a murderous turn. Richard goes on a murderous rage, only for the ghosts of those he has slain to return from the grave and haunt him…

Less well-known than the Poe movies, Tower of London is no slouch. Price relishes the opportunity to flex his Shakespearean muscles, just as he would eleven years later with Theatre of Blood, and Corman works wonders, as usual, with his low budget. If you’ve ever wondered what a drive-in Shakespeare film would look like, you’re in the right place!

Win The Action Drama Quarry: The Complete First Season On DVD!

February 10, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Season 1 of the “wildly entertaining” (TV Guide) Cinemax® series Quarry, loosely based on the novels of Max Allan Collins set in and around Memphis, is set to make its home entertainment debut on February 13, 2017. Starring Logan Marshall-Green as Mac Conway, this “impressively flawless” (Washington Post) series follows two soldiers’ return home from a second tour of duty in Vietnam.

Set in and around Memphis during the early 1970s, Quarry is a thrilling action drama that centres on the character of Mac Conway, a Marine who returns home from a second tour of duty in Vietnam. With his relationship with his wife Joni growing tenuous, Mac finds himself tempted by a lucrative offer from The Broker, a shady criminal involved in a network of killing and corruption that spans the length of the Mississippi River. After a series of events, Mac – whom The Broker codenames “Quarry” – finds himself conscripted against his better judgment into The Broker’s crew, a turn of events that has dire consequences for both himself and Joni. Gripping and “startlingly good” (Yahoo! TV), with action packed storytelling, the first season of Quarry promises to not disappoint.

Win The Blaxploitation Classic Willie Dynamite On DVD/Blu-ray Dual Format!

February 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

To celebrate the release of Willie Dynamite – out Dual Format 6th Feb. 2017 – we are giving away a copy courtesy of Arrow Video!

HE’S TIGHT, TOGETHER, AND MEAN.

“The hands-down winner of the all-out best blaxploitation movie of the seventies,” declares author and artist Darius James in That’s Blaxploitation! Willie Dynamite may not be as well-known as John Shaft, Sweet Sweetback or Super Fly’s Youngblood Priest, but he certainly deserves to be.

Who is Willie Dynamite? He’s the flashiest pimp in New York – he drives a personalised purple-and-gold Cadillac and wears some of the most eye-catching outfits ever seen on a cinema screen. He wants to be number one, but with the police, the D.A., fellow pimps and a tough-talking social worker on his tail, can a man as arrogant and amoral as Willie D avoid a downfall?

Willie Dynamite competes with the best of blaxploitation on all levels. Roscoe Orman dominates with his central performance – a star turn that’s the equal of Richard Roundtree in Shaft or Pam Grier in Coffy. Multi-award-winning director Gilbert Moses balances action and social commentary as deftly as Gordon Parks, Jr. did with Super Fly. And the score by J.J. Johnson featuring Motown legend Martha Reeves is as catchy as anything composed by Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield or James Brown.

To be in with a chance of winning Willie Dynamite on DVD/Blu-ray, just answer the question below and fill in your details, then press submit! The competition closes on February 19th, 2017, so get answering and good luck. [Read more…]

Win Brian De Palma’s Raising Cain On DVD/Blu-ray Dual Format!

February 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

To celebrate the release of Raising Cain – out Dual Format 30th Jan. 2017 – we are giving away a copy courtesy of Arrow Video!

Having spent the latter half of the eighties trying out new styles of filmmaking – Wise Guys’ knockabout comedy, The Untouchables’ prestige gangster pic, Casualties of War’s Vietnam movie and The Bonfire of the Vanities’ satirical misfire – Brian De Palma returned to what he knew best, the Hitchcockian psycho-thriller, for Raising Cain.

John Lithgow plays three roles: child psychologist Carter, his evil twin brother Cain, and their Norwegian father, Dr Nix, who likes to experimental on the young. Carter’s wife is concerned that her husband isn’t quite paying their daughter the right kind of attention; she’s also having an affair which, upon discovery, threatens to send him into a psychotic rage…

A relentless blend of murder, multiple personalities, cross-dressing, crazed parents, bizarre dream sequences and stunning cinematic assurance, Raising Cain harks back to those twin masterpieces Psycho and Peeping Tom, but is pure unadulterated De Palma.

To be in with a chance of winning Raising Cain on DVD/Blu-ray, just answer the question below and fill in your details, then press submit! The competition closes on February 15th, 2017, so get answering and good luck. [Read more…]
