Cute Animated Gay Short Looks At The Difficulty Of Coming Out (Possibly on a roller coaster)

May 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Filmmaker Hamish Steele has come up with an extremely cute animated short, all about one guy’s attempts to come out to his friend. However he keeps putting it off.

The film is loosely based on the London-based Steele’s own life, telling NewNowNext, “Yes – I did once try and come out to a friend on a roller coaster.”

It’s short, sweet and well worth watching, with a great ending, so take a look above. I’m sure that many of you will also have faced the difficult of finding the right time. [Read more…]

The Three Bits: Roman Episode 1 – The fun gay web series finds a new character

May 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had three episodes of The Three Bits, featuring young gay man Henry and his rommate, including their attempt to organise an orgy. The plan with the series was always that it would be split between three members of the Bits family, so after Henry’s adventures, we now move on to Roman.

She is a former drug dealer who’s recently started working as a gardener, which doesn’t impress her girlfriend. When a member of Roman’s old crew steals a pound of weed from a rival operation, she finds herself in a tight spot. But she *loves* tight spots.

Take a look at it above. And you can find Henry’s episodes here, here, and here. [Read more…]

Love Is All You Need Short Film – Where gay people rule

April 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ROXTFfkcfo

Making a film where societal rules are reversed is a simple idea, but it’s rarely been done successfully. For example, White Man’s Burden, starring John Travolta and Harry Belafonte, imagined a world where black people are in charge and white people are the underclass, but it came across as heavy-handed and rather over-simplistic.

A couple of years ago the short film Love Is All You Need did the festival rounds, and found success with its tale of a society where gay people rule and straights are vilified. Now that short has been posted online in full. Although once again it can be a little obvious at times, it mainly smart, insightful, well made and pretty powerful.

It certainly does a great job of pointing out the things that are often overlooked or tolerated about homophobia, which would get society far angrier if it wasn’t happening to an underclass. Take a look above. [Read more…]

‘Stand Up! – Don’t Stand for Homophobic Bullying’ Short Film/PSA

April 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s not that often you see a PSA that could quite happily be included in the programme of a gay short film screening, but that’s true of ‘Stand Up!’, made by directors Anna Rodgers & Aoife Kelleher for the Irish BeLonG To Youth Services to support their annual Stand Up! LGBT Awareness Weeks.

It’s a call to stand up for homophobic bullying, with a young couple facing abuse for showing affection, but then an unexpected response comes from their schoolmates.

The Stand Up! campaign promotes friendship amongst young people as a way to combat homophobic bullying, which sounds like a pretty good idea to me. You can find out more here. [Read more…]

The Language Of Love Short Film – A young man deals with being gay and his feelings for his best friend

April 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

In The Language Of Love, a young man is supposed to be concentrating on his French exam, but his thoughts are elsewhere, which he tells us about while he delivers a monologue to camera. It’s smart and somewhat moving, as the lad segues from French through to his best friend and his feelings for him. That inevitably causes him to wonder what being gay means and how to negotiate life as a young gay man.

The short is the result of Fresh Ink, a development program for emerging playwrights from the Australian Theatre for Young People. 17-year-old writer/performer Kim Ho was one of the winners of the 2012 monologue competition, Love Bytes, and he’s now been assisted in turning his three-minute entry, Transcendence, into The Language Of Love.

Commenting on the Fresh Ink website, Ho says, “Homosexuality is still a sensitive topic, and I immediately felt pressured to write something that was candid but not disrespectful to the LGBT community. I wanted to write something that would make me cry just like the stunning It’s Time advertisement for marriage equality, something that would resonate with people no matter what their sexuality.”

Take a look at the short above and a ‘making of…’ below. [Read more…]

April 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The 3 Bits has been one of the most entertaining new LGBT-themed web series, and now Episode 3 is here, which sees Henry Bits and his hot friend Grant trying to find love with their iPhones. It’s grindr vs. okcupid. Will either of them get lucky, or could one of them wind up dead?!

You can see the earlier episode here and here.

This is just one section of The 3 Bits, with the others Henry’s sister Roman, who’s also gay and a former weed dealer trying to get a career in freelance gardening off the ground. There’s also Madison, the oldest, is a mommy blogger determined to prove her rock-’n’-roll cred. You can follow the series over at The 3 Bits. [Read more…]

Trailer: Luke Macfarlane Gets An Erection (At least that’s what his short film is called)

April 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Many of us fell a little bit in love with Luke Macfarlane as Matthew Rhys’ on-again, off-again boyfriend Scotty. Now the openly gay actor is back with ‘Erection’, a short film he’s made, about a man who has problems getting it up the night before he leaves town.

A trailer for the short has now emerged, and as you might expect for a film about bedroom issues, there’s plenty of Macfarlane shirtlessness.

However it looks like a pretty dramatic film, with the man not taking his flaccidity very well, as sex may be the only way to save the relationship. The short has been doing the rounds of the festivals, but take a look at the short trailer above.

And although you don’t see it in the promo, there does seem to be a little downstairs action going on in the still from the film below. [Read more…]

The 3 Bits Episode 2 – Will the guys go through with the sex party?

March 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After the very entertaining first episode of the new web series The 3 Bits comes the second instalment. Last time we left Henry Bits he was organising an impromptu sex orgy, but while his friend Grant was initially supportive (thinkin Henry would never go through with it), Grant’s now having second through, particularly as he’s been told size is important, and he stuffs his underwear.

Take a look above to find out what happens next, and whether the orgy will go ahead after all.

It’s great fun, so make sure you watch both parts.
