Lucas Till Returns For X-Men: Days Of Future Past

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lucas-till-x-men-days-of-future-past-tweet
While a lot of people from both the earlier X-Men films and First Class have been confirmed to be coming back for X-Men: Days Of Future Past, there’s been no news on Lucas Till, who played Alex Summer/Havok in First Class.

Now Bryan Singer has confirmed that he will indeed return, tweeting a picture of the actor on the set, along with the message, ‘”Mankind must put an end to war before war puts an end to mankind.” -JFK’

That quote and the military uniform seems to suggest that Havok is going into battle, and as he’s surrounded by what appear to be other mutants, it’s possible he’s in Vietnam as part of a secret X-unit in the early 70s.

It also appears some other details about the movie have leaked, including info on exactly who will be time-travelling in the movie. The plot revolves around the First Class mutants getting a message brought to them from the future, with info that they must prevent an assassination in order to stop events unfolding that result in mutants being locked up in concentration camps, and the terrifying sentinels monitoring the Earth.

If you wants to know those leaked plot details, head over to Vulture.

Plenty more info about the film is promised at the film’s panel happens on Saturday at Comic-Con, with Fox hoping to get us excited for the film’s July 18th 2014 release.

Twilight’s Mackenzie Foy Joins Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mackenzie-FoyMackenzie Foy is known to Twilight fans for playing Renesmee, the child of Bella and Edward, in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. Now she’s got another role in a major film, as TheWrap reports she’s in final talks to join the cast of Interstellar for director Christopher Nolan.

As this is a Nolan movie, there’s no info on who she’ll play, but she joins a cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Bill Irwin and Casey Affleck.

The movie revolves around a journey into outer space that pushes humanity’s knowledge of science and technology. The plot is reportedly based on the scientific theories of Kip S. Thorne, who believes that wormholes actually exist and can be used for time travel.

Christopher Nolan is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother, Jonathan Nolan. Shooting will start in a couple of months time, with a November 2014 release date already set.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Rumoured For Doctor Strange

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

At the moment we’d take this with a pinch of salt, but it’s certainly likely to get the fanboys interested. A rumour has emerged that Marvel Studios is eyeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt as their top candidate to play Doctor Strange.

Latino Review first reported the rumour, but it should be remembered that at the moment Marvel hasn’t even officially announced a Doctor Strange movie is definitely going to be made, although they have set release dates for three movies in 2016 and 2017, one of which is believed to be Doctor Strange.

According to Latino Review, no official offer hasn’t been made to the actor, but it’s said Marvel executives are internally discussing the possibility of hiring the actor soon.

The 32-year-old Joseph Gordon-Levitt is just the right age for the part, since the Sorcerer Supreme in Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer’s script is crafted for someone in their early 30s. Doctor Strange is a former neurosurgeon, a practicing sorcerer, and serves as the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats.

Although Marvel is known for revealing new actors at Comic-Con, it’s not believed JGL is aware of the Doctor Strange discussion surrounding him, so he won’t be coming out on the stage this weekend in San Diego.

Dustin Hoffman & Bobby Canavale Join Jon Favreau’s Chef

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Dustin-HoffmanTwitter is becoming an increasingly popular way for directors to announce additions to their casts, eschewing the traditional route of going of The Hollywood Reporter or Variety. Jon Favreau is following that trend by using Twitter’s Vine to release a video revealing that Dustin Hoffman and Bobby Cannavale have joined the cast of his upcoming indie comedy, Chef.

The tweet to go alongside it simply said, ‘New cast members. #Chef https://vine.co/v/hZEIHAVuwbD’, and you can take a look at the accompanying video below.

The movie follows a former chef (Favreau) who decides to set a food truck in Los Angeles. No details have been revealed as to exactly what Dustin Hoffman and Bobby Cannavale will be doing in the movie, but they join a cast that includes Jon Favreau, Sofí Vergara, John Leguizamo, Scarlett Johansson, and Robert Downey Jr. Shooting has already started in LA.

It’s currently due for release May 2014.

Kevin Costner Takes A Midnight Delivery For Guillermo Del Toro

July 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kevin-costnerKevin Costner’s career revival continues with the news that he is in talks to star in Midnight Delivery for Universal Pictures, according to Variety. Guillermo del Toro is set to executive produce the project, and he also came up with the idea for the film.

The movie is about a desperate father who reluctantly becomes a drug mule in order to save the life of his son. Neil Cross (Mama) wrote the original screenplay, based on Del Toro’s story.

Costner was most recently seen as Jonathan Kent in Man of Steel, and next he’s set to be part of another major new franchise pic, Jack Ryan. He also recently wrapped shooting on Draft Day. It’s certainly a big change for a man who was barely averaging one movie a year through the 2000s, none of which could be described as a major hit.

Berlin 36 Trailer – Gender comes into play when the Nazis will do anything to win

July 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Berlin 36 tells an incredible true story that was kept secret for decades, and shows the double standards the Nazis were prepared to go to, as long as it kept up the fiction of their pure, superior Aryan race.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Hitler’s Aryan policies and increasing racial discrimination against the Jews lead the USA to threaten a boycott of the 1936 Olympic Games.

‘The Americans insisted that Nazi Germany must allow Jews onto their team and specifically demanded the participation of Jewish high jumper Gretel Bergmann (Karoline Herfurth – The Reader, Perfume), who was the leading high jumper of her time.

‘The Nazis reluctantly include Gretel in their Olympic team, but to ensure that she doesn’t win gold they also include a mysterious German rival, the unknown Marie Ketteler (Sebastian Urzendowsky). Like Gretel, Marie is also an outsider within the German team and both athletes soon form a strong bond of friendship and mutual support. But Marie hides a dark secret known only by the Nazi elite, a secret so dangerous it could completely undermine their Olympics success.

‘It is now up to Marie to decide if the Nazis’ plan will actually succeed.

‘Inspired by true events, Berlin 36 is one of the biggest Olympic scandals.’

The film reaches DVD in the UK on August 12th. [Read more…]

Let My People Go! Trailer – Gay-themed rom-coms enter a highly stylised world

July 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Set in a world that looks a bit like what David Lynch would make if he went very camp, Let My People Go! is a fun looking French/Finnish flick, with plenty of gay interest. It’s due for DVD release in the UK on September 9th, but now you can get a feel with this trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A sweet and hilarious fusion of gay romantic comedy, Jewish family drama and French bedroom farce, Mikael Buch’s Let My People Go! follows the travails and daydreams of the lovelorn Reuben (Regular Lovers’ Nicolas Maury), a French-Jewish gay mailman living in fairytale Finland with his gorgeous Nordic boyfriend. Just before Passover, a series of mishaps and a lovers’ quarrel exile the heartbroken Reuben back to Paris and back to his zany family—including Almodóvar goddess Carmen Maura (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Volver) as his ditzy mum, and Truffaut regular Jean-François Stévenin as his lothario father. Scripted by director Mikael Buch and renowned arthouse auteur Christophe Honoré (Love Songs), Let My People Go! both celebrates and upends Jewish and gay stereotypes with wit, gusto and style to spare. The result is deeply heartwarming, fabulously kitsch and hysterically funny.’

New Cal Trailer – Take a look at the gay-themed follow-up to Shank

July 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The 2009 movie Shank perhaps didn’t make as big waves in gay-film circles as perhaps it should have. Nevertheless it’s getting a sequel, Cal, which is set for release in the UK on September 9th.

Shank followed Cal, a lad from the wrong side of the Bristol tracks, who found a possible escape from his harsh life when he began dating a young Frenchman. However getting out proved more difficult than he thought.

In the sequel, ’20-year-old Cal returns from France to Britain after receiving news that his mother is ill. He finds his home city of Bristol facing hard times, with poverty and crime on the rise and rioting and looting rife. Now openly gay, Cal clashes with his homophobic mother and alcoholic, predatory aunt. Things soon turn around upon meeting a cute, young student who needs his help. However, Cal’s act of kindness brings about a whole lot of trouble and a race against time to make peace with his mother and escape his home town. An intense, dark and intelligent feature bringing Cal’s story bang up-to-date.’ [Read more…]
