Elizabeth Banks, Helena Bonham Carter & Mindy Kaling May Join Female Ocean’s 11 Spin-Off

June 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

elizabeth-banksA few days ago we reported that Cate Blanchett is in talks to join Sandra Bullock in the planned Ocean’s 11 spin-off, which will revolve around a group of female thieves. Now it seems director Gary Ross is filling out the other central roles, as Showbiz 411 reports that Elizabeth Banks, Helena Bonham Carter & Mindy Kaling are all likely to sign on too.

It’s believed the movie will centre on eight female thieves (the working title is Ocean’s Ocho), so there are a few more roles to cast yet. Rumours suggest Bullock’s character may be Danny Ocean’s sister, but no plot details have been released.

Hunger Games helmer Gary Ross should start shooting the movie either later this year or early next year, with filming believed to be taking place in New York.

The Chambermaid Lynn Trailer – A woman’s fetishistic fascination with a hotel guest grows in the lesbian-themed film

June 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-chambermaid-lynn-slideSynopsis: ‘An intense examination of desire that will take you to the edge, The Chambermaid Lynn follows a woman recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital. Employed by a plush hotel, she also has to care for her ailing and cantankerous mother.

‘However, what really stokes Lynn’s fire is her fetishistic fascination with the hotel’s guests, particularly those whose rooms leave tantalising traces of their lives. She is soon drawn to the enigmatic and beautiful Chiara, a sex-worker who introduces her to the twin notions of endurance and ecstasy. This wouldn’t be a story if everything went smoothly, and it wouldn’t be kinky if there wasn’t some pain.

Official Selection BFI Flare: London LGBT Film Festival 2016, Montréal World Film Festival, Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival, Munich Film Festival, Rotterdam International Film Festival, Zurich Film Festival, Chéries-Chéris Film Festival Paris’. The film will be released in the UK at the end on June. Women He’s Undressed Trailer – Into the life of the gay costume designer who may have been Cary Grant’s lover

June 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

women-he's-undressedUntil recently Orry-Kelly was Australi’s most prolific Oscar winner, having picked up three Academy Awards for Costume Design. He was behind some of the most iconic outfits in cinema, from Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis’ dresses in Some Like It Hot, to Ingrid Bergman’s outfits in Hollywood. He was also pretty much the only person Bette Davis wanted to dress her, working with the legend on more than 30 movie.

However, he’s largely been forgotten, partly because it seems Hollywood wanted it that way, due to Orry being a rather uncompromising man who did little to hide the fact he was gay (although due to the homophobic times he lives in, he had to be careful not to be too open), and may have had a major star as a lover. Although there’s no proof, rumours suggest that lover may have been Cary Grant.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘During the Hollywood boom years the legendary Orry-Kelly was costume designer on an astonishing 282 motion pictures, designing for Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Rosalind Russell, and many more stars. Orry was as big a legend behind the scenes as the on-screen legends he adoringly dressed. Three times an Oscar winner, Orry was talented, daring, brash, bold and the toast of Hollywood, yet the thorn in the side of many a studio head. WOMEN HE’S UNDRESSED celebrates his story.

Includes interviews with: Actors Jane Fonda and Angela Lansbury, critic Leonard Maltin, costume designers Ann Roth , Catherine Martin, Colleen Atwood, Michael Wilkinson, Kim Barrett, plus family members and more.’

The film will be out on DVD and VoD in the US from Wolfe Video in August. [Read more…]

Actor Jeremy Jordan Is Raising Money To Save Cousin From Ex-Gay Facility, While Parents Issue Denial

June 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jeremy-jordanJeremy Jordan is an actor and singer, known for the likes of The Last Five Years and Joyful Noise, as well as TV’s Smash and most recently Supergirl (where he plays Winn Schott). However, he’s currently dealing with a large amount of family drama, as he’s launched a crowdfunding campaign to pay for a lawyer to help get his cousin out of what he says is a ‘pray the gay away’ ex-gay facility.

He writes: ‘Meet my cousin Sarah. At 17, her future looks bright. She is in the top 10% of her class, runs cross-country and belongs to the National Honor Society and the debate team.  She is also gay.  Like any high school kids in a relationship, Sarah and her girlfriend wanted to go to prom together.  But when they did that, Sarah’s parents, who believe that homosexuality is a sin and abnormal, sent Sarah away against her will to an East Texas Christian boarding facility for troubled teens to “pray away the gay.”

‘Not only does this type of “therapy” not work, mental health professionals from organizations like the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics have found it to be psychologically damaging, especially for minors.  And Sarah has been told that she must stay in this facility for a whole year.  So instead of being surrounded by friends and extended family who love and support Sarah for who she is, she’ll be isolated in a place where the fact that she is gay is treated as a sin and an illness. Instead of preparing for college and competing in the state debate tournament, she’ll be doing forced labor every day and enduring Bible-based “therapy” for her “disease.”

‘She is not allowed phone calls or email or any form of computer communication.  She is also not allowed visitors and cannot leave the property.   She is completely cut off from the outside world. She tried to run away, but was caught by the staff and returned to the facility.

‘Sarah’s extended family and close friends are trying to win her release through the legal system, but it’s not cheap.  Attorney’s fees in the first few weeks have already exceeded $20,000, and they are continuing to mount, with a full hearing set for July.  Sarah needs your help.  But this is about more than just one gay kid – if we free Sarah we can help show that it’s not okay to try to make gay teens straight by sending them away and using the threat of God against them.’

Since the campaign was launched, the parents of the girl have issued a denial that she was sent to the ‘school’ because if her sexuality, telling the Austin American-Statesman, ‘”My daughter would be heartbroken that she is being misrepresented this way”. In court documents, Sarah’s family says that she’s at the school to, “help her with issues of depression, self-harm, drug use, and behavioral issues.”‘

However, family law attorney Christine Andresen, of CHA Law Group, PC, who is the lawyer hired by Sarah’s aunt to help get her released, counters to People that, “I can’t comment on pending litigation, other than to authenticate that to the best of my knowledge, the background information on the GoFundMe shared by Sarah’s cousin is truthful.”

Despite Rumours, Finding Dory Won’t Feature Pixar’s First Openly Gay Couple

June 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

finding-dory-lgbtA few days ago, shortly after the release of a new trailer for Pixar’s Finding Dory, the internet erupted into excitement at the idea it might feature the animation studio’s first gay couple. The reason was that the promo included a shot that featured a child with two women. We chose not to report on it, as the evidence seemed pretty thin – after all, there was no evidence the women were a couple, and it’s unlikely anyone would have jumped to the assumption if one of the women didn’t have short hair and a duffel coat.

Now it seems that assessment is true, as reports from a preview screening suggest that as it lookedin the trailer, the women are only very briefly seen and there’s absolutely no info on whether they are supposed to be a family.

Some outlets have also tried to get Disney & Pixar to confirm or deny whether they were supposed to be a lesbian couple, but the studios and filmmakers aren’t saying too much. For example, USA Today asked director Andrew Stanton and producers Lindsey Collins, whether those character were LGBT. “They can be whatever you want them to be,” said Stanton. “There’s no right or wrong answer.”

“We never asked them,” added Collins.

“We have not asked that of any of the couples in any of our shots in any of our movies,” Stanton said.

It won’t help rehabilitate Disney’s gay-friendly credentials, as while the company likes to promote how LGBT-friendly it is as an employer and at its parks, it has a dismal track record for inclusiveness in its movie. Indeed, recently the studio was given a failing grade in GLAAD’s most recent Responsibility Index, due to the fact not a single one of their 2015 releases had an identifiably LGBT character. Recently there’s been a Twitter campaign to #GiveElsaAGirlfriend in Frozen 2, but on past form it’s unlikely to happen.

Sacha Baron Cohen Set To Play Mandrake the Magician

June 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sacha-baron-cohenFor several years the idea of a movie based on the classic character, Mandrake The Magician, has been doing the rounds of Hollywood, but nobody has quite figured out how to make it work. However, Tinseltown hasn’t given up on the idea and now it’s ended up at Warner Bros., with THR reporting that Sacha Baron Cohen is now attached to star, and will develop the movie alongside Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen.

Lee Falk created Mandrake in 1934, with the illusionist a powerful hypnotist who uses his abilities to fight crime with Lothar, one of the strongest men in the world. Universal Pictures produced a 12-part serial based on the comic strip in 1939, but the character has not been seen on the big screen since then.

Disney owned rights for several years in the early 2000s, before they were acquired by Baldwin Entertainment and Hyde Park. Atlas Entertainment picked up the rights in 2009, and even commissioned a script by Janet Peoples and David Webb Peoples (12 Monkeys), before they teamed up with Warner Bros. It now looks like they may be trying to take things in a more comedic direction.

Go-Go Boy Interrupted S2 Ep10 – Danny wants to know how you can tell if you’ve found ‘the one’

June 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

go-go-go-interrupted-s2-ep10You never quite know much Go-Go Boy Interrupted you’re going to get. While some episodes are around 10 minutes, others are much shorter. For Season 2, Episode 10, we get a nugget-sized 2.5 minutes, but it’s still pretty fun.

This time around Jimmy Fowlie’s Danny wants to know if you’ve found ‘the one’. However, while he thinks he might have found it, he isn’t sure whether it’s just because he’s getting older and perhaps a little bit desperate. Luckily (or maybe not so luckily) his friends are on hand to help him out. And watch out for the welcome reappearance of Glee’s Heather Morris

Take a look at the new episode of Go-Go Boy Interrupted below. And if you need to catch up with earlier episodes of Go-Go Boy Interrupted, you can click here to find them. [Read more…]

Gay Short Film Showcase: zack & luc – Looking at a relationship from both sides in Super 8

June 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zack-and-luc-slidezack & luc had plenty of success on the film festival circuit, and now it’s been released on the web, so we can all get a look at this gay-themed short film treat.

The 15-minute short is ‘A split-screen film telling two versions of the entire story of a relationship. Each memory becomes intertwined with all the others: the firsts, the lasts, the middles, each of the small nothing moments that add up to something in the end.’ It’s also got a great vintage look, due to being shot entirely on Super 8 film.

While the split-screen set-up could have felt gimmicky, it works surprisingly well, use the two side to compare and contrast, oftn showing us the same events as different times from different angle. Indeed, at times it’s oddly mesmerising as your eye flick from one side to the other.

Take a look at Zack and Luc below. If you know a short film we ought to be posting, tell us by getting in touch via our contact page. And check out more gay short films and web series here. [Read more…]

Downriver Trailer – Take a look at the LGBT-themed film from Iris Prize winning director Grant Scicluna

June 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

downriver-slide2We’ve been following Downriver for a couple of years, ever since it was announced that filmmaker Grant Scicluna was planning to make it.

Scicluna’s The Wilding won the Iris Prize LGBT Short Film prize with its tale of two tough young men who find love in a young offenders institute. There’s a bit of a thematic link between the two films (and the same main actor – Reef Ireland), with Scicluna previous saying of The Wilding, ‘To a degree it precedes the story of Downriver’.

Now we can get a full taste of the Aussie movie, as the trailer has arrived. Here’s the synopsis: ‘James was convicted of drowning a boy even though the body was never found. Upon parole he meets the victim’s mother who prompts him to seek the truth. He risks his life to uncover the trail of sins that may lead to closure & redemption.’

Take a look at the promo for the very atmospheric, LGBT-themed movie below. And to find out more, read our interview with Scicluna and cinematographer Anthony Cox, which took place shortly after they’d filmed Downriver. [Read more…]

June 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

out-of-iraq-slideThe documentary Out Of Iraq debuted at the L.A. Film Festival recently and will air on Logo in the US on June 13th, and it looks like it will be well worth a watch. To give you a taste, take a look at the trailer below.

Indiewire offers the following synopsis: ‘Two enlisted men in Iraq, one an Iraqi solider, the other a US translator, fall in love before being forced to flee when one becomes the target of an honor killing. With thousands of miles between them, they fight to be reunited. A World of Wonder film produced by Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato; Produced by Eva Orner and Chris McKim; Co-Directed by Academy Award-winner Eva Orner (“Taxi to the Dark Side”) and Chris McKim; and Co-Produced by Aaron Butler.’

It’s a film that takes on same sex love in a part of the world where such things are still incredibly taboo and where it’s difficult to find anyone who supports LGBT right. It’s of course also a part of the world riven by war. [Read more…]
