Beach Rats Clip – Two men lie in bed together in the gay-themed Sundance hit

August 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the likes of Call Me By Your Name, God’s Own Country and Beach Rats, it was a particularly good year for gay-themed movies at Sundance. The last of those is now heading towards its US release, and to give us a feel for the flick, a new clip has been released (initially over at The Daily Beast).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘On the outskirts of Brooklyn, Frankie, an aimless teenager, suffocates under the oppressive glare cast by his family and a toxic group of delinquent friends. Struggling with his own identity, Frankie begins to scour hookup sites for older men. When his chatting and webcamming intensify, he begins meeting men at a nearby cruising beach while simultaneously entering into a cautious relationship with a young woman. As Frankie struggles to reconcile his competing desires, his decisions leave him hurtling toward irreparable consequences. Eliza Hittman’s award-winning Sundance hit is a powerful character study that is as visually stunning as it is evocative.’

Beach Rats is will be in US cinemas from August 25th, and should arrive in the UK in November. Take a look at the clip below. [Read more…]

Obi-Wan Kenobi Is Confirmed To Be Getting His Own Star Wars Movie

August 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Since it was revealed that Disney/Lucasfilm planned to make a Star Wars movie every year, interspresing the continuation of the ‘main’ storyline with looks at other aspects of a galaxy far, far away, there’s been a lot of speculation about what those expanded universe will be. We’ve already had Rogue One, next year Han Solo’s getting his own spin-off, and they’re also working on Yoda and Boba Fett movies.

Now it’s been confirmed that one of the other major figures from Star Wars is getting a film made about their earlier days – Obi-Wan Kenobi. Deadline reports that it’s early days on the movie, but they’re already talking to Stephen Daldry about directing, who would then help guide the movie through the scripting and production process.

At the moment it’s not known what part of Kenobi’s life the movie might cover, although the speculation is that it will return to his very early days, possibly during his time at the Jedi academy. However, it might end up something completely different.

Four Days Trailer – Two college friends slowly fall in love in the gay Filipino movie

August 16, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We haven’t seen many gay-themed films from The Philippines, but we should be getting one soon in the form of Four Days. It’s a tale of slow-burning desire and romance, and looks like it might be rather sweet.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘4 Days tells the story of two college friends who slowly realize they mean more to each other than either had initially realized. 4 Days joins Derek and Mark in the days leading up to Valentine s Day over the course of a few years- charting the blossoming of a friendship in to something much more enduring as time goes on- and challenging both to question who they thought they were and who they truly want to me. Painting a moving picture of how an abiding friendship can sometimes lead to love- and how we sometimes have to wrestle with our own demons to find their true self, 4 Days is achingly romantic and delicate.’

The film is due out on DVD in the UK on September 11th. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Furious Desires Trailer – Passion & yearning in the upcoming gay short film collection

August 16, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despite having a title that sounds a little too much like a 1990s straight ‘erotic thriller’, the gay-themed short film collection Furious Desires looks like it might be pretty good. It presents a series of films which, as the title suggests, looks at different forms of desire.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Desire is mysterious. Desire is overwhelming. Desire is tragic. Desire is FURIOUS. The many permutations of that strange thing called desire are on full display in this stunning collection of short films: Daytime Doorman tracks the burgeoning desire between Marcelo and his sexy doorman Marcio. Xavier charts the beginnings of desire, when Nicholas begins to notice his son, Xavier, only pays attention to certain types of boys. The Other Side is about the frustrations of unfulfilled desire when the object of your lust is beyond your reach- literally. The Tigers Fight explores what happens when one man, unbound by the ancient traditions, decides to subvert what s expected of him to declare his desire for his best friend, and finally, in Loris Is Fine we learn about the lengths two young lovers will go to prove that their love is beyond desire.’

The collection will be out on DVD in the UK on September 25th. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Even Lovers Get The Blues Trailer – Sex, searching and pansexual passion in the LGBT-themed film

August 16, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If it’s a French LGBT-themed film it’s problably going to be moody, a bit (pseudo-)intellectual and have plenty of sex in it. That may be an over-generalisation, but it looks like it’s true of Even Lovers Get The Blue.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ana is sleeping with Hugo, Dalhia with Graciano, Léo with Louis, and Arthur with everyone. Parties and love affairs lead to heart searching, deep desires and the craving to live life to the full. Even Lovers Get the Blues draws the portrait of the love and sexual lives of disenchanted and passionate young people.’

The movie is due out in the UK on November 6th. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Seat In Shadow Trailer – An unexpected connection between an unconventional therapist/artist & a young gay man

August 16, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Daniel Craig Confirms He Will Indeed Play James Bond Again

August 16, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

He’s certainly kept Bond fans on the edge of their seat, but Daniel Craig has confirmed that he will indeed play James Bond in the upcoming 007 movie, which is currently just known as ‘Bond 25’. It puts to rest almost two years of speculation and rumour over whether he would be back or not.

Craig himself seemed to say it was the end of his tenure as Bond while promoting Spectre, with comments such as that he would “rather break this glass and slash my wrists” than play Bond again. However he and his representatives later clarified to say that he was merely talking about how he felt at that moment, following an arduous shoot and promotional schedule, and that he wasn’t ruling out a return.

Since then there have been all sorts of rumours, from suggestions he was signing on for two more movies for a record upfront payments, to reports that he was completely walking away and producers were already on the lookout for a replacement. The speculation has ramped up in recent months following the announcement of a November 2019 release date for Bond 25, which means it’s likely it’ll start shooting sometime later this year or early next.

Craig ended all the rumours on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, when he replied to a question about whether he would be back as Bond, by saying, “Yes…I always wanted to; I wanted a break.” [Read more…]

Cate Blanchett May Join Jack Black In Eli Roth’s House With A Clock In Its Walls

August 16, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cate Blanchett and Jack Black aren’t the first people you’d think of for a movie directed by Eli Roth, the man behind Hostel, Cabin Fever and The Green Inferno. However, Black is already onboard his upcoming The House With A Clock In Its Walls, while Variety report Blanchett is not in talks to join him.

The film is an adaptation of John Bellairs 1973 novel, which was illustrated by Edward Gorey. It ‘tells the tale of a recently orphaned 10-year-old boy who discovers a world of hidden passageways, magic, and danger in his uncle’s old house.’

As that synopsis suggests, this is going to be different in tone the Roth’s often dark, gory and very grown-up movies. The House With A Clock In Its Walls is still in the horror wheelhouse, but Bellair’s book was written for younger readers, so it’s likely the movie will follow suit.

Kuntergrau: Seasons 1&2 – Take a look at the extremely popular web series produced by young, gay Germans

August 15, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Kuntergrau might have passed most English-speaking areas by – until now – but it’s claimed that it’s currently continental Europe’s most popular gay-themed web series. That’s all the more remarkable considering it’s produced on a voluntary basis as part of the youth work of Europe’s oldest LGBT youth center: the „anyway“ youth center in Cologne, Germany.

It’s made by young gay people aged between 15 and 27 in their spare time, including film students as well as media-interested gay men who all have one goal – to show the world what being gay in 2017 means to them. They’ve produced two seasons of the show so far. The first five episodes debuted in 2016, with four more premiering in 2017 – that may only be 9 episode, but it represents a chunky 130 minutes of entertainment.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In KUNTERGRAU, coming out is part of the past while sex and love is mundane. A group of five gay friends between 17 and 24 deal with everyday problems and experience the meaning of love, sex, and friendship.

‘The series deals with Leopold (Age 17) who does not want to identify himself through his sexuality, Noah (Age 24), whose BDSM fetish challenges his ex-boyfriend, Jan (Age 20), to a point where their relationship begins to break. Along with them, promiscuous Marcel (Age 21), who works as a banker and has to live with his HIV infection. Last but not least, Lukas (Age 19) who moves from the country to the big city to get away from his controlling parents – unsuccessfully.

The stories of these five men become intertwined and what results is a story that encapsulates what it means to be a young gay man in a big city.’

Take a look at Seasons 1 and 2 below (you may need to switch on subtitles/CC if you don’t speak German). You can find out more over on the show’s official website. [Read more…]
