Does Joaquin Phoenix Have A Troll Living In His Forehead? You Decide!

July 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

her-joaquin-phoenixIt’s one of the great questions of all time – does Joaquin Phoenix have a troll living inside him?

Like us, you’ve probably spent a lot of time wondering about this, but now the evidence is starting to stack up that the troll is real and that it resides in his forehead.

Don’t believe me? Well, watch the video below where someone (we’re presuming a highly credentialed cryptozoologist) managed to film the troll during one of the final scenes of Joaquin’s Oscar-winning movie, Her.

It’s certainly one of those things where once you’ve seen it, it can’t be unseen!

So now the question becomes – who’s actually got the acting talent, Joaquin or the troll? And will we ever get see a movie where he just hangs upside-down and lets the troll be the star?

You may have think I’ve gone mad, but watch the vid below and you’ll probably change your mind. (And thanks to movies.com for the heads up). [Read more…]

Colton Haynes Shows Off His Singing Skills With A Full Rendition Of You Raise Me Up

July 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Abercrombie-&-Fitch-Spring-2014-Colton-HaynesLast September sexy Arrow and Teen Wolf star Colton Haynes teased us with 30 seconds of his cover of You Raise Me Up, along with the suggestion we’d be hearing more about his musical project soon. However we’re now nine month later and it’s only now that we get to hear the rest of his take on the song.

You can have a listen below while gazing at Colton’s very pretty face. He can certainly sing, and if you like what you hear, head here to hear his live rendition of Dan + Shay’s 19 You + Me.

Incidentally, while most people refer to You Raise Me Up as a Josh Groban or Westlife song (depending on what part of the world you live in), their versions are actually covers too. It was actually written and first recorded by Irish/Norwegian duo Secret Garden. [Read more…]

Rufus Hound & Ardal O’Hanlon Join Russell T Davies’ Gay-Themed TV Show Cucumber

July 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rufus-HoundBack in May, Channel 4 announced the main cast for Queer As Folk creator Russell T Davies’ return to gay-themed television, Cucumber. However it turns out there were a few names missed out, as they’ve now added comedians and actors Rufus Hound and Ardal O’Hanlon, as well as Adjoa Andoh.

Cucumber is about 46-year-old Henry (Vincent Franklin) and his boyfriend Lance (Cyril Nri) whose comfortable and settled existence is shattered after the most disastrous date night in history – involving a threesome, two police cars, and Bony M – and Henry’s new life begins.

Hound joins the eight-part series as Rupert, who’s described as being ‘a man in hot pursuit of Henry – but as their date gets stranger and stranger, the night ends in very unexpected ways.’

O’Hanlon is Brian, who goes out on a date with Cleo, only to find the evening unravelling into old secrets and long-buried truths. Andoh joins as Lance’s sister Marie – a strong, outspoken professional, who thinks her brother’s boyfriend just isn’t good enough for him.

One of the most interesting things about Davies’ project is that it comes in three parts. Cucumber is eight 60-minute instalments that will be shown on Channel 4 in the UK, which then feeds into the eight 30-minute episodes of Banana, about the people orbiting Henry’s world, which will air on E4. If that weren’t enough, there’ll also be the on-demand show Tofu, described a ‘an anarchic and entertaining factual series about sex – from gay to straight, and anything in between – inspired by the dramas each week.’

Banana, which will star the likes of Andrew Hayden-Smith, also has a couple of newcomers – Luke Newberry and Dino Fetscher. Their characters, Josh and Aiden, will first appear in Cucumber before their in-depth stories are detailed in individual episodes of Banana.

The shows are currently shooting in Manchester. No air date has yet been announced.

Take Your First Look At Andrew Rannells As Hedwig (& The Angry Inch)

July 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

andrew-rannells-hedwigAfter a hugely successful, Tony-winning run, which has already seen the production make back its money, Neil Patrick Harris is stepping out of Hedwig & The Angry Inch’s shoes on Broadway next month.

Although originally it was thought Hedwig would only run as long as NPH starred, its success has assured it will continue, and as we reported a few weeks ago, The New Normal & Girls star Andrew Rannells will take over. Now we can get our first glimpse at the actor in the role with the pic above.

It’s certainly not Rannell’s first Broadway gig, as he’s appeared in the likes of Jersey Boys and Hairspray, before scoring a Tony nomination as part of the original cast of The Book Of Mormon.

Andrew will take over the role on August 20th. You can find out more here.

The Shining Prequel, Overlook Hotel, Gets Director Mark Romanek

July 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mark-romanekStephen King recently revisited the world of The Shining with a semi-sequel novel, Doctor Sleep. It’s not surprising that Hollywood has reignited interest in the world of Stephen King’s book.

However as the new novel is only tangentially connected to the events and places of The Shining, Warner Bros has been working on a more straightforward prequel, Overlook Hotel.

Glenn Mazzara (The Walking Dead) has already been set to write the script. Now they may have found a director, as Variety reports Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo, Never Let Me Go).

Overlook Hotel is an original tale, but one based on a prologue Stephen King originally wrote for The Shining, but eventually ended up deleting. The script follows, ‘the origin story of the Overlook Hotel through the eyes of its first owner, Bob T. Watson. A robber baron at the turn of the 20th century, Watson scaled the remote peaks of the Colorado Rockies to build the grandest resort in America, and a place he and his family would also call home’.

However, it’s safe to say things didn’t go completely to plan, with the strangeness eventually leading Jack Torrance and his family to the hotel many decades later – even if he may have been there all along.

Adam Sandler, Josh Gad & Peter Dinklage Get Kinda Heroic In The First Pic From Pixels

July 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Pixels-preview-pic1After a while in development (the short film it’s based on was released in 2010), the fun sounding Pixels finally went into production earlier this year. Now we get the first pic, courtesy of a scan from EW.

It features Adam Sandler, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage, who aren’t exactly looking desperately heroic despite their sparkly outfits, alongside the film’s female lead, Michelle Monaghan.

The short film, by Patrick Jean, saw New York City being transformed into and destroyed by 8-bit pixel classic videogames. This movie version features aliens getting confused by video feeds of classic arcade games, thinking that it is a declaration of war against their species. As a result they attack the Earth by staging versions of these games in real life on a massive scale.

Sandler, Gad and Dinklage are the unlikely trio of videogame champions who may be Earth’s only hope, with Monaghan as the naval officer assigned to help them. Kevin James meanwhile plays the president.

The Chris Columbus directed movie is due out May 2015.

The Ring 3 Gets Director F. Javier Gutierrez

July 19, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Ring-Naomi-WattsThe moment 3D became popular there was talk in Hollywood of making a new Ring movie, with the feeling that having the creepy Samara crawling out of the screen would be very popular with audiences. However while there’s been rumours of remakes and sequels, it’s been trapped in development hell.

Now it’s got a new wind, with Deadline reporting that Before the Fall’s F. Javier Gutierrez has signed on to direct. Hopefully he’ll have more luck with the film than his predecessors and with The Crow remake, which he’s been attached to for several years but which has also had difficulty getting the greenlight.

The Ring, based on the 1998 Japanese movie Ringu, arrived in 2002 and was a decent hit, although the 2005 follow-up, The Ring Two, wasn’t quite as successful. The hope is that 3D can add new interest despite the fact it’ll be at least 10 year since the last film before a new one arrives in cinemas.

It’s not known when the new film will shoot, or if star Naomi Watts will be involved.

Frankie Valenti Talks To Us About His Move From Gay Porn To Indie Cinema With Tiger Orange

July 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Frankie Valenti in TIGER ORANGE. Photo by Lila JavanTwenty years ago if you went into porn, you’d have to give up the idea that you could ever be taken seriously in mainstream cinema – at best you might be able to become a Traci Lords of Ron Jeremy type cult figure. However times have changed.

Over the last few years Frankie Valenti – under the suitably OTT name Johnny Hazzard – has become a big name in gay porn, winning numerous adult industry awards and legions of fans who love his sexual charms. However now he’s doing something rather different, as he’s taken a co-lead role in the gay-themed indie movie, Tiger Orange, which gets its world premiere tonight at LA’s Outfest.

The film sees Valenti playing Todd, one of a pair of gay brothers. Todd is brash and open about his sexuality, which causes friction with the closeted Chet when he returns to their home town following the death of their father.

We caught up with Frankie ahead of the premiere to talk about the movie and his transition from the adult to the indie film world. [Read more…]

Anna Paquin Hopes Talking About Being Bisexual Can Make Being LGBT Seem More ‘Normal & Mundane’

July 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

anna-paquinAlthough most people were supportive when Anna Paquin revealed a few years ago that she is bisexual, there was a firm and vociferous minority who weren’t impressed and were unfraid to show it. Particularly as she was talking about bisexuality (and while in a relationship with a man at the time), the backlash and bitchiness came from both homophobes and bi-phobic gay people.

She’s been talking about that to HuffPost Live about that reaction, saying, “There’s people who are probably going to go to their grave thinking whatever they think about the LGBT community – that’s their problem, not mine. I know there are a lot of hateful people in the world who have strong opinions. You know when you stick your neck out on certain topics that some people are going to go ‘Yay!’ and some people are going to say some of the most vile things that you can imagine.”

Although she’s now married to fellow True Blood actor Stephen Moyer and has two children, she is keen to point out that this doesn’t make her any less bisexual. One of the reasons she’s more than happy to talk about her sexuality is, “That the more normal and mundane and boring this stuff becomes, the better it’s going to be for everyone who is part of our community.”

‘The reason that I feel like it’s important to talk about this is stuff is that the more normal and mundane and boring this stuff becomes, the better it’s going to be for everyone who is part of our community.’ – See more at: http://www.gaystarnews.com/article/anna-paquin-was-not-surprised-hateful-backlash-after-she-came-out-bisexual170714#sthash.iduPoaYL.dpuf

Wentworth Miller Says He Was ‘Feeding A Fantasy’ Before He Came Out As Gay

July 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Wentworth-MillerWentworth Miller has been opening up about his decision to come out as a gay man to Details magazine. He says that after revealing his sexuality, “I feel more fully expressed. After Prison Break, I came to grips with the fact that my public persona was in misalignment with how I actually felt. I was out to a handful of people in my twenties, and once I hit 30, I was out to family and friends. But professionally, I was feeding a fantasy. I created this air of ‘We don’t address that thing.'”

When he did come out, there was criticism in some quarters (as there has been recently regarding Ian Thorpe) about the fact that in the past he had vehemently denied he was gay. However he says that at the time, “My face was on billboards, and I thought it was my job to act a certain way. But I think audiences knew to a certain degree.”

Miller also takes the chance to talk about his struggles with serious depression, saying, “I’m part of a group called the ManKind Project. It’s a circle of men I sit in with every week that’s a safe sounding board for whatever’s up for me: good, bad, ugly, really ugly. We know how to respond to someone coming out now—we’ve had that training—but admit you’re sad or that you’ve thought about suicide and people don’t know what to do. With sadness, particularly with men, that conversation is unfamiliar.”

Mommy Trailer – Take a look at queer filmmaker Xavier Dolan’s Cannes prize-winning movie

July 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mommy-xavier-dolanBack in May Canadian wunderkind Xavier Dolan – he’s directed five movies and he’s still only 25 – picked up and Cannes Jury Prize for his latest film, Mommy (although he missed out on the Queer Palm for the best LGBT-themed movie at the festival).

Just to show what a precocious scamp the young man is, Dolan picked up the Queer Palm a couple of years ago for Laurence Anyways, and also won two awards at Cannes for his directorial debut, I Killed My Mother, which he helmed when he was just 18.

Now a first trailer for the movie has arrived, which you can see below.

In Mommy, ‘A widowed single mom finds herself burdened with the full-time custody of her explosive 15-year-old ADHD son. As they try to make ends meet and struggle with their impetuous and unpredictable ménage, the new girl across the street, Kyla, benevolently offers needed support. Together, they find a new sense of balance, and hope is regained.’ [Read more…]

Annabelle Trailer – The doll from The Conjuring gets its own movie

July 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

annabelleHollywood loves sequels and spin-offs, but usually these revolve around the characters or situations from a movie – not the props. However Annabelle is a film that’s based around the creepy doll we saw in The Conjuring.

The trailer suggests this will be an origin story, letting us know how the doll became the object of evil that caused so much trouble in the case Ed and Lorraine Warren investigated, where it was being manipulated by a demon.

However it still doesn’t explain why anyone would want such an impressive ugly toy in their house to start with.

Annabelle Wallis, Alfre Woodard, Ward Horton, Tony Amendola, Eric Ladin, and Brian Howe star in the film, with Gary Dauberman directing. A pre-Halloween release is planned.

Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]
