Hollywood’s obsession with men getting much younger love interests continues unabated, with the news that 30-year-old House of Cards star Kate Mara has signed on to star opposite 49-year-old Johnny Depp in Transcendence, according to Deadline.
There aren’t too many details about the movie, although it;s about Will (Johnny Depp), a scientist who uploads his brain into a supercomputer to create artificial intelligence. Paul Bettany and Rebecca Hall also star. Ironically, Kate Mara’s sister Rooney Mara was initially considered for the role that was ultimately won by Hall. No details have been released regarding Kate’s character.
Wally Pfister, who served as cinematographer on The Dark Knight Rises, Moneyball, and several other films, is making his directorial debut, working from a screenplay by Jack Paglen. Filming will kick off next month.
