In the years since Harvey Milk became the first openly gay elected official, inroads have been made into LGBT people having an increasing presence in US politics, although serious barriers still remain.
The documentary Breaking Through features ‘openly LGBT elected officials at all levels – including the first gay US Senator, Tammy Baldwin – sharing their stories of self- doubt and triumph over multiple barriers ranging, from race and poverty to gender and sexual orientation, revealing a deeply personal, rarely-seen side of politicians and gay people.
‘Though featuring politicians, it isn’t about politics: it’s about people who feel fear and shame, yearning to live meaningful lives. They reveal how they broke through barriers internally – daring to believe something different than what they were told – and externally to achieve the future they envisioned. By showing that “anything is possible,” they impact people from all walks of life.’
Breaking Through hits DVD and VoD in the US on June 3rd.

More important then being gay,are the candidates stance on all issues. It’s nice to have something in common with a candidate, however just voting for someone based on religion, race or sexual preferences is just plain dumb! I do not believe in the Victory fund. The day they support a non-gay candidate over an openly gay candidate who is better qualified… then I just might consider their choices.
