About a year ago when James Franco was signing up for pretty much every movie going, he was attached to The Iceman, about mob murderer Richard Kuklinski. However due to production delays he’s had to drop out and now Deadline reports that Captain America himself, Chris Evans, will take his place.
The film is based on Anthony Bruno’s book, The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer, which follows the extraordinary story of Kuklinski. Michael Shannon will play the title character, a notorious mob contract killer and loving family man. He earned his nickname by freezing the bodies of his victims, disguising the time of death, and throwing police off-track.
However he didn’t just kill for money, as Kulinski was a true psychopath, and had murdered numerous people before he attracted the mob’s attention. His family and neighbors believed he was an average businessman, having no idea about his deadly alternate life. Kuklinski killed over one hundred people during his life. Evans is set to play Robert Pronge, who became Kuklinski’s protege.
There was talk that The Iceman may have been falling apart after James Franco’s departure, although now it seems to be back on track, with production scheduled to begin next month. Ray Liotta, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and David Schwimmer will also star.
