The internet is a wonderful thing, and one of its more recent innovations is crowd-sourcing funding for movies. One such film that’s look for a bit of cash to get it made is a short called Out, which is trying to get its $15,000 budget through the website KickStarter. So far it has $4,300 but needs all the money pledged by January 14th if it’s going to get made.
Out is a short film collaboration that’ll be directed by young helmer Michael Willer, and is set to be filmed in the Hollywood, Los Angeles area. The goal is to submit it to Outfest 2012, LA’s main LGBT film festival.
The short, which is due to star Tyler Langdon and Brett Maier, is a drama about a man’s journey as he is forced to face his sexuality and reconcile years of social conditioning against being gay. That man, Chance, is forced to confront his gay roommate, Eric, and discover what it means to truly accept himself for who he is.
KickStarter is a great idea, which allows you to give money to individual projects that cover all sorts of creative endeavours, not just film. Many of these projects are definitely worthwhile but might have difficulty getting funding through normal sources. In the case of Out, in return for a bit of money, you could get anything from a mention in the credits to a date with the director, depending on how much you give!
So if you reckon Out should be given a chance, head over to Out’s KickStarter page and give it some cash! Check out a vid for the project below.
