Director Joe Carnahan is likely to be celebrating the success of The Grey today, but he isn’t resting on his laurels as the LA Times reports that he has signed up to write and direct a remake of Death Wish, which MGM is planning. Back in November 2007, Sylvester Stallone was atached to both star in and direct the remake, but he is no longer attached.
The original Death Wish centred on Paul Kersey, a mild-mannered architect who transforms into a deadly killing machine after his wife and daughter are attacked. It isn’t known if there’ll be any significant changes for the remakes.
The 1974 Michael Winner version, which starred Charles Bronson, is credited for revitalising the action movie genre after its release, and has become the template for revenge flicks ever since.
