After spending the last few years in major action mode directing the likes of The Kingdom, Hancock and Battleship, Peter Berg is heading somewhere far more personal by signing on to helm Father’s Day, based on the book by his cousin, Friday Night Lights author Buzz Bissinger.
The book is a departure for the writer, whose work is predominantly set within the world of sports. The non-fiction tome revolves around one of his twin sons, Zach, who has dealt with mental disabilities since his premature birth. The story follows the author and his 24-year-old son, as they embark on a summer-long road trip, which helps the father better understand his child.
Universal Pictures is reportedly circling the project through their first-look deal with Peter Berg, but no deals have been signed yet. (Source: Variety)
