Dark Knight Rises Stays Atop The US Box Office

July 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Going into this weekend, there was a lot of debate over whether the US public was still put off going to the cinema by the terrible events in Colorado. In the end, while there probably was still a bit of a knock on effect, it wasn’t as bad as some had predicted. The Dark Knight Rises handily won the weekend, taking another $60 million for a 10 day total of $289 million, just behind the $313 million The Dark Knight had taken at this stage.

The new entries were pretty weak though. The Watch landed in third spot with just $13 million, below many of the already soft predictions many had for it. The marketing seems to be the problem here, with many left unclear exactly what sort of film the Ben Stiller movie is, especially as some promos pretty much ignored the alien invasion angle while others only concentrated on that.

Step Up Revolution made it to number four with $11.8 million. To be honest it’s not a horrible start as the film don’t cost much to make, but it’s well down on previous instalments in the series.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of June 27th-29th.

1 The Dark Knight Rises $64.0 $289.0

7 Brave $4.2 $217.2
