In a move that’s not too surprising (except in how long it’s taken), Channing Tatum has revealed that Magic Mike is going live with an all male revue that will be hitting Las Vegas next year. It’s surprising it hasn’t happened before because it seems like such as obvious extension, but they may have held off creating a Magic Mike strip show/club, due to the fact Tatum and co. have been working on a musical stage version of the movie. However, little has been heard about that recently, so they may have decided a revue was the next sensible step instead.
Tatum will direct the show, titled Magic Mike Live, which will recreate the film’s ‘Club Domina’ with three bars, an interactive stage and seating for 450 guests. It’ll open at the Hard Rock Cafe in Vegas next March.
In the video below, Tatum talks about his plans, while surrounded by hot shirtless guys doing household chores – and with some puppies thrown in too. While the video talks about this being a club for ladies, you have to hope that gay guys will be allowed in too, especially as the gay contingent certainly helped make the movie a success! Channing’s house in the vid certainly looks like a gay man’s wet dream, if nothing else!
As Channing says, “What if women were given the option that men have had for centuries?. “That’s when my brain morphed into Kevin Costner from Field of Dreams and said, ’If you build it, they will come, spelled c-u-m.’” Take a look at the video below. [Read more…]

Shortly after Magic Mike became a suprise success at the box office, Channing Tatum began talking about a sequel, and writer Reid Carolin has been charged with coming up with the script, once more collaborating with Tatum on the story. Plus, there’s a Broadway version of the film in the works.
The Dark Knight Rises has handily won the US box office race for a third week running, taking $36 million for a very good take so far of $354 million. Batman beat out newcomer Total Recall, which took $26 million. That was at the lower end of expectations, and with suggestions it’s not going down well with audiences, it’s unlikely to keep its grosses up in the coming weeks. It may now be hard for Sony to make back the $125 million is spent on the 2012 makeover of Recall.
Going into this weekend, there was a lot of debate over whether the US public was still put off going to the cinema by the terrible events in Colorado. In the end, while there probably was still a bit of a knock on effect, it wasn’t as bad as some had predicted. The Dark Knight Rises handily won the weekend, taking another $60 million for a 10 day total of $289 million, just behind the $313 million The Dark Knight had taken at this stage.
This weekend’s box office numbers were understandably delayed out of respect for the victims of last week’s Colorado shooting. However now they’ve been released, with The Dark Knight Rises taking a massive $160 million, the third biggest opening weekend ever after The Avengers and Deathly Hallows Part 2, and the biggest ever for a 2D release.
I went to watch Magic Mike yesterday and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cinema so chock full of women (and me). Indeed it’s been attracting such big audiences that despite only costing $12 million to make, it’s already grossed over $77 million in the US alone.
It was a good weekend for R-rated movies at the US box office, with both Ted and Magic Mike beating out predictions with great opening weekend numbers. Seth MacFarlane’s feature film directorial debut, Ted, came out on top with a superb $54.1 million, the highest number ever for an original R-rated comedy (although behind The Hangover II and Sex And the City if you count established comedy franchises). People obviously liked the idea of a foul-mouthed, pot-smoking teddy bear.
