Although it didn’t do big box office in either the UK or US, it seems Hollywood has taken note of the fact that in the rest of the world the French film Untouchable has taken an enormous $400 million at the box office, and as a result there’s been a definite upswing in interest in making movies about disability.
Hilary Swank is busy putting together a movie in which she’ll be dealing with ALS (Motor Neurone Disease) and now Variety reports Jonathan Demme (The Silence Of The Lambs) is planning to make a movie about a world-renowned architect who’s just woken up after a lengthy coma.
Heather MacGowan’s script follows the man through his rehabiliation – both mental and physical. With the help of his sarcastic therapist, he tries to repair his damaged relationship with his children, and win back the love of his wife.
It’s not clear when Demme might shoot the movie, as he’s also developing a movie based on Stephen King’s 11/22/64 and an animated movie based on David Egger’s Zeitoun.
