George Clooney is a busy man, but it seems he’s been intrigued by a new project, as Variety reports that he’s in talks to star in the sci-fi drama 1952 for Walt Disney Pictures and director Brad Bird.
News of the movie first broke last June, when screenwriter Damon Lindelof signed an enormous seven-figure deal to write the screenplay. Brad Bird cam onboard to direct around the same time. The story will revolve around a man who makes first contact with aliens on Earth. It’s described as being in the same vein as the 1977 classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind, although the studio is keeping details close its chest.
It isn’t known when production may begin and the studio has stressed that 1952 has not been officially given the green light yet. However, if George Clooney does in fact sign on, you’d expect the go ahead to come pretty quickly.
