Just before Christmas we reported that Jim Sturgess and Chuck star Zachary Levi were the frontrunners for the the lead role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and now there’s another name to add to the list, according to Deadline, as Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also in the mix for the role of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord.
It may seem a bit soon for Gordon-Levitt to jump from DC’s The Dark Knight Rises to a Marvel property, but Joseph is a comic book lover, and while some have suggested he could follow up his Dark Knight role to become Batman in Justice League, there’s been little indication either he or DC is actually planning to do that.
Peter Quill is a NASA astronaut who learns that his true father is actually an alien, which leads him on a journey into outer space. With a sentient space ship, he becomes the Star-Lord, an intergalactic cop who serves as the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
James Gunn is directing from his own screenplay, a release date of August 1st, 2014 is already set.
