Although Cloud Atlas didn’t do as well as Lana and Andy Wachowski probably hoped, they’re planning a slightly more mainstream sci-fi adventure for their next outing – Jupiter Ascending. Now a new cast member has signed up, with Deadline reporting that Sean Bean has joined the already cast Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, and Eddie Redmayne.
The story is set in a universe where humans are at the bottom of the evolutionary food chain, and one supreme leader rules all. The plot follows a young Earth woman (Mila Kunis) who is targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe, because she bears a striking similarity to the ruler. Channing Tatum plays the bounty hunter who is sent to kill the woman, but ends up falling for her in the process (so it’s all a bit Snow White). Sean Bean is portraying Stringer, who’s described as a ‘Han Solo-type character’.
Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski are directing from their own original screenplay. The last we heard an early 2013 production start was being eyed, although an exact start date isn’t known.
