While Sir Ian McKellen is one of the world’s best known actors, he’s revealed he’s got a bit of a sideline officiating at wedding. He now said that he’ll be the one marrying Patrick Stewart and his fiancée, Sunny Ozell. Who would have though Professor X would let Magneto marry him?
Ian revealed the news on The Jonathan Ross Show, saying, ”I’m going to marry Patrick. I am going to officiate at his wedding.”
Unsurprisingly he was then asked how he it was legal for him to officiate the ceremony.: “I don’t know,” he said. “But in Massachusetts, in the middle of America somewhere, you get a friend along, and I read out the words, and Sunny [Ozell] and Patrick will then be married… I’ve done it once before with two guys having a civil partnership. I was crying my eyes out.”
Massachusetts has laws which say that for a $25 dollar feel, the Governor can give someone one-time permission to officiate at a wedding. From what McKellen has said, it’s likely someone else will be the official, while he reads the words.
McKellen was then asked: “What do you wear when you officiate at a wedding?”, saying that the last time, he wore “A white gown which I bought in India. You mustn’t upstage the bride.”
