Although The Adventures Of Tintin wasn’t a big hit in the US, its $373 million worldwide gross certainly mean that it’s worth making a second movie, which even from its earliest days was going to have Peter Jackson taking over from Steven Spielberg at the helm.
However, with Jackson busy on The Hobbit movies, it’s not been clear when we might see the film, but now Spielberg told the TimesOfIndia, Spielberg revealed that they’re hoping to get The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun ready for a Christmas 2015 release.
Here’s what the producer had to say, teasing that they are combining two of Hergé’s books into one story, “Peter Jackson is directing the next one, I’m producing. We have a script and we’re going to start performance capture probably at the end of this year. Don’t hold me to it, but we’re hoping the film will come out around Christmas-time in 2015. We know which books we’re making, we can’t share that now but we’re combining two books which were always intended to be combined by Hergé.”
Around the release of the first Hobbit movie, Jackson said he was hoping to shoot the motion-capture part in 2013, so it certainly seems they’re currently hoping to stick to that plan. It’s presumed the book that will be brought together are Prisoners of the Sun and Seven Crystal Balls. Steven Spielberg also hinted that The Blue Lotus will likely be the third Tintin film.
