A year or so ago, Alcon Entertainment announced that they were working on a remake of the 1991 action thriller Point Break. Now that do-over is moving forward with Ericson Core being hired to helm the movie, according to Deadline.
Kathryn Bigelow directed the original film, which starred Keanu Reeves as a FBI agent who has to go undercover to get to the bottom of a string of bank robberies by a gang known as the Ex-Presidents. However he finds himself being tested when he realises he likes these people.
This new version will be set in the world of extreme sports, but will maintain the same tone as the original. This time the FBI agent will be infiltrating a criminal syndicate.
Ericson Core is best known for directing Invincible, which starred Mark Wahlberg. He got his start as a cinematographer on the likes of The Fast And The Furious and Daredevil. Production is scheduled to begin at the end of this year.
