It’s nine years since Dodgeball hit cinemas, and ever since then there have been rumours of a sequel, which most fans thought were getting dimmer as the years passed. However, now the long gestating Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story follow-up is finally moving forward, with 20th Century Fox hiring Clay Tarver to write the screenplay.
THR reports that Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn are expected to return, with Stiller’s Red Hour banner producing alongside Fox. The 2004 original followed a gym owner who rounds up a group of misfits for a Dodgeball tournament in order to save his property from a corporate gym take over. Stiller and Vaughn played enemies in the first film, but it’s said that the sequel will see them reluctantly team up to take on an even bigger threat.
It’s not definite that Dodgeball 2 will happen, as Jeff Sneider cautions that just because someone’s been hired to write a screenplay doesn’t mean all the elements will come together to get it made.
