Zachary Quinto is busy travelling the world at the moment promoting Star Trek Into Darkness, but he’s booked a great job for when that finishes – making his Broadway debut in a revival of the Tennessee Williams classic, The Glass Menagerie.
Quinto will play Tom Wingfield, the narrator and protagonist of the play, who works hard to support his mother and sister. His mom, Amanda, is a faded southern belle, obsessed with her youth and in finding a suitable match for her daughter, Laura. However Laura is a quiet and timid woman who prefers looking after her collection of glass animals rather than the company of others. Things come to a head when Tom brings home a friend from work, who Amanda assumes is a potential suitor for her daughter.
The character of Tom is often considered a stand-in for tortured gay playwright Williams.
Quinto previously starred in an off-Broadway production of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America in 2010, but this will be his first proper Broadway production. The play is due to open on September 5th, although the theatre it’ll be staged in has yet to be announced.
