With a plot that involves a journey where the main characters meet various fairytale characters along the way, a film version of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Into The Woods, has plenty of room for star turns. It already has Meryl Streep as an evil witch, Johnny Depp going big bad wolf, and just the other day Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal entered negotiations to play some pompous princes.
Now someone else has entered talks to show off their singing skills in the movie, as Variety reports that Emily Blunt is in final talks for one of the lead roles. Into The Woods follows a baker and his wife who try to break a curse placed that’s left them childless, by confronting the witch (Streep) who caused their trouble in the first place. Assuming she signs on the dotted line, Blunt will be the baker’s wife.
Rob Marshall is set to direct, with filming kicking off later this year. There’s also still plenty of space for more movie stars doing a musical turn, as the likes of Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood are still to be cast.
