A few days ago, director Colin Trevorrow tweeted a location scouting pic for Jurassic Park 4, which suggested to most people the film was really going to happen after years of delays and rumours. However the film has now been put on hold by Universal and Amblin Entertainment.
The production schedule was already very ambitious, as the script is still in the middle of being written, and filming would have had to begin in the next couple of months if it was going to hit its June 13th 2014 release date. A tweet from THR’s Borys Kit, suggests the problem was a realisation the movie was simply too big to rush, he says the draft of the script Universal received a couple of days ago was “Way more epic and ambitious than they were prepared for.”
The delay was apparently done in coordination with the filmmakers, seemingly as everyone realised more time would be better. At the moment it does seem the studio is still keen to go ahead with the film, even if it’s not clear exactly when. However as the film has been on and off for a decade, yet another delay is bound to disappoint fans.
