Johnny Depp’s The Lone Ranger may have flopped at the US box office, but he’s still a big star that pretty much everyone wants to work with. As a result he’s now in talks for Mortdecai, which will reunite him with Secret Window writer/director David Koepp, according to THR.
Koepp is currently rewriting the original script by Eric Aronson, which in turn is based on Kyril Bonfiglioli’s 1970s book The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery.
Depp will play, ‘Charles Mortdecai, a debonair art dealer and part-time rogue who, according to the studio, “must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.” He also has to juggle angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist.’
It’s not clear when it will start shooting.
