Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep have starred together in The Deer Hunter, Falling In Love and Marvin’s Room, but they haven’t been in a movie together since 1996. Now they’re getting back together as Deadline reports they’ve both come aboard The Good House, based on Ann Leary’s bestselling novel.
The book is ‘darkly comic, and told through the eyes of Hildy Good (Streep), a New England realtor and not-so-recovering alcoholic whose perfectly compartmentalized life starts to come apart at the seams when she forms a new friendship with Rebecca McCallister. As Rebecca becomes the subject of town gossip, Hildy rekindles an old flame with Frank Getchell (De Niro), a tell it like it is Yankee, who tries to un-complicate her complicated life.’
Michael Cunningham, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Hours is set to write the script. It doesn’t appear a director is currently set. There’s no news either on when it might shoot.
