Matthew Vaughn signed Colin Firth months ago to play the lead role in Secret Service, but it’s only now he’s pulling together the rest of the cast. Taron Egerton joined last week and now Variety reports that Samuel L. Jackson has signed on to play the villain.
Firth is set to play a veteran MI6 spy who takes his nephew Gary (Taron Egerton) under his wing. He hopes that mentoring the young man in the ways of covert affairs will put him on the straight and narrow. There’s no word on exactly how Jackson fits into the plot.
Vaughn is eyeing Emma Watson and Bella Heathcote for the female lead, although no official decision has been made yet.
aughn is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jane Goldman, which is adapted from the comic book series created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. Production is slated to begin sometime this fall.
