After high-profile flops like The Lone Ranger and John Carter, Disney has become more nervous about making mega-budget (non-Marvel) movies, and it seems that even extends to the mighty Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.
Just a week after the directors revealed the fifth Pirates movie is due to be called Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Disney has delayed the movie, apparently due to issues with the script. Originally slated for release July 2015, it is now being pushed back from the summer, although there’s no news if that means it’s be out later in 2015, or if it will end up on the 2016 schedule.
It moves Pirates 5 out of an already crowded schedule of massively anticipated movies, which include Disney’s Star Wars VII and The Avengers 2, along with the Batman & Superman mash-up.
Bleeding Cool also has what it says are the first plot details, saying that ‘there’s going to be a new female lead, a sparring partner for Jack Sparrow. She’s nothing like him, mind you – despite being suspected of witchcraft, she’s actually a woman of science… As for witches, they’re central to whole conceit.’
There’ll also be a ghost who’ll have a main role, ‘It’s this character, a former member of the British military now sided with Barbossa on a revenge mission, that gives the film its title.’
The film will get a new young male and female lead, ‘a couple of pretty young Brits from farming families’.
