All Is Lost filmmaker J.C. Chandor to write and direct an biopic about NFL coaching legend Vince Lombardi, according to Deadline. Legendary Pictures is behind the film, who will be hoping they can match of success of their recent Jackie Robinson movie, 42.
Lombardi led the Green Bay Packers to five NFL Championships and the first two Super Bowl titles, but before then, he served as offensive line coach for the New York Giants. After Giants defensive line coach Tom Landry was hired as the Dallas Cowboys head coach, he got the Packers to hire him as their head coach, at a time when the team’s owners were considering folding the team altogether.
Under his leadership, he turned the then-losing team into one of the most successful franchises in NFL history.
Legendary has a rights package in place for the film, which includes a deal with the coach’s estate, the David Marannis book, When Pride Still Mattered, and a Broadway play that was adapted from the book. It’s not known when it will shoot.
