JJ Abrams may have moved on to Star Wars, but he’s still producing Star Trek 3. There’s also a bit of change on the screenwriting team, as it seems Alex Kurtzman now won’t be penning this one, although his writing partner Roberto Orci is still onboard, and now THR reports that Paramount Pictures has brought on writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay to co-write the screenplay for Star Trek 3, alongside franchise veteran Roberto Orci.
The movie project does not have a title, director (although Joe Cornish is the top of the list at the moment) or a scheduled production start date yet, although Paramount has previously said they want to release it summer 2016, which would mark the 50th anniversary of the original Star Trek TV series, created by Gene Roddenberry.
Expect to hear a lot more about Star Trek 3 soon.
