For a couple of years now Channing Tatum has been talking about how he wants to direct. Nothing has quite come together yet (although he may end up helming Magic Mike 2), but he’s now added another possibility to his development slate.
Deadline reports Tatum and producing partner Reid Carolin are eyeing an adaptation of Jo Nesbø’s upcoming novel The Son as their joint directorial debut. Channing Tatum being is also likely to star.
The novel is about a young man who is in prison after confessing to crimes he didn’t commit. When his father apparently commits suicide, the young man finds out that while he thought his father was a corrupt cop, he was actually an honest man. He also believes his dad was murdered. The young man then break out of prison to avenge his father’s death, as well as trying to find out to sort out the crimes he confessed to.
Nothing is set in stone yet, but Tatum, Carolin and producer Kevin McCormick recently headed to Oslo to meet Nesbø. A screenwriter is currently being sought out.
