Steven Spielberg has had a busy few weeks while he’s been deciding what movies he wants to make in the future. Earlier this week he signed up to direct a currently untitled Cold War thriller, which will reunite him with Tom Hanks.
Now he’s lining up another movie, as THR reports he’s officially come onboard an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG.
The 1982 book is about a young girl who one night is snatched from her bed by a giant and taken to him faraway land. However it turns out the giant isn’t a bad guy – he’s a BFG, Big Friendly Giant – who blows dreams through children’s windows.
However the other giants are indeed bad and like nothing better than eating little kids – and they need to be stopped.
Melissa Mathison is writing the script, which bodes well considering she also wrote Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.
The Cold War movie will apparently shoot first, with The BFG coming afterwards.
