It seems Marvel’s Doctor Strange is going to have a bit of a British flavour (it might as well, as they film all their movies in Britain anyway), as with Benedict Cumberbatch already installed in the title role, he may now be joined by Tilda Swinton, according to THR.
She will be Strange’s mentor a ‘Tibetan mystic known as the Ancient One, who is training pupils to be the next sorcerer supreme.’ In the comics the character has always been a man, and initially Marvel was going to follow that through with the film, before deciding that Swinton was the right person for the job.
Chiwetel Ejiofor was previously said to be in talks for the movie, with the speculation being that he would be the Ancient One, however the new report doesn’t mention him, so it’s not clear whether he’s moved on or is just playing a different character.
Scott Derrickson is set to direct the movie which follows the title character, Doctor Strange, who is a former neurosurgeon, a practicing sorcerer, and becomes the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats.
The film’s due out November 2016.
