For quite some time now Benedict Cumberbatch has been attached to play the title role in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, but it’s only now they’re properly looking for a female lead to star opposite him, and according to Variety (confirming earlier rumours), Rachel McAdams is the top choice.
McAdams had previously suggested she was in contention for the film, telling the LA Times a few days ago, “It’s still super-early days, and I don’t know where that’s gonna go, if it’s gonna go anywhere at all.” However if she takes the role, it’s not clear who she will play.
Scott Derrickson is set to direct the movie which follows the title character, Doctor Strange (Cumberbatch), who is a former neurosurgeon, a practicing sorcerer, and becomes the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also set to star.
The film will shoot this year, with a November 2016 release set.
