One day it would be nice to have a movie that was utopian rather than dystopian, where the future is actually a good place and science has helped us all out. But I suppose there’s more drama in suggesting things have gone wrong. In Equals at least romance survives, even if it’s not meant to.
In the film, Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart live in a gloomy, sterile world, where emotion has been outlawed. However, the human spirit won’t take that lying down, and some people get a disease known as ‘Switched On Syndrome’, where they begin to have feelings. As a result, Hoult and Stewart start to fall in love.
Guy Pearce, Jacki Weaver, Bel Powley, Kate Lyn Sheil, and Claudia Kim also start, with a summer release expected.
