Tom Goss has had plenty of success as a singer (and actors) who doesn’t hide his sexuality – indeed it has been front and centre in many of his songs and videos. That’s true of his new cover of the classic Son Of A Preacher, which he takes in a rather acoustic direction (at least initially).
What really helps it stand out is a great video which tells a Romeo & Juliet style story about two teens who fall for one another but find themselves torn apart by their deeply religious community (and yes, one of them literally is the son of a preacher man). It’s sweet, sometimes dark but overall has a very positive message.
Goss comments “The story of the video is one that hits home to me. “I had planned to become a Catholic priest — I spent 18 months in seminary following college before I realized I was gay. I also attempted suicide when I was 13. Although it was for different reasons, it’s a place that I’ve been.” Take a look below.
