Vin Diesel is making a bit of a habit of leaving franchises before returning later. He did it with Fast & Furious, and after playing Xander Cage in 2002’s xXx, he bowed out for the sequel, which starred Ice Cube.
Now, 15 years after the first film, he’s returning to the series for xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage, which also sees Samuel L. Jackson back as Agent Augustus Eugene Gibbons. In the movie, Xander Cage is left for dead after an incident, though he secretly returns to action for a new, tough assignment with his handler Augustus Gibbons. As the character posters below show, it also looks like they might be trying to build the franchise into more of a Fast & Furious style team affair.
And as you can see from the trailer below, the movie is also following in Fast & Furious’ footsteps in the ridiculously OTT action stakes. It should be in cinemas early next year.
