While those following James Franco’s career know he’s a straight man with an almost obsessive interest in all things gay, there are plenty out there who’ve assumed the fact he likes to make movies about gay people means he like a bit of man loving himself.
And in a new interview with Attitude he suggests that his public persona also adds to questions about his sexuality.
He says, “One of the things that’s very much part of my public image is the question of my sexuality,’ the 34-year-old told Attitude magazine.
“It’s not something that bothers me in the slightest. It hasn’t gone away and I get asked about it from all sides. It’s partly my doing and partly not my doing.”
If he was gay, it doesn’t sound like he’d have any problem coming out, as he thinks it’s time for a gay a-lister. “I think that the people I have known who are performers who haven’t publicly come out didn’t because they’re afraid it’ll hurt their careers. And they’re afraid they won’t be able to play straight roles anymore.
“I think the time is about right. I’m not an authority on this but if I think about it for a second…if there’s somebody that was well respected and very secure with their career, I could see it happening in a very positive way.”
The full interview is in the April issue of Attitude which hits news-stands on March 6th. (Via Pinknews)
