James Franco Is Set To Become A Multiple Man In An X-Men Spin-Off

November 18, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For several years Fox has been planning to expand its X-Men universe, and while it’s sometimes proven more difficult that they’d hoped – we still haven’t had Gambit with Channing Tatum – but they’ve had great success with Deadpool and a change of direction for Wolverine in Logan. They’re also hoping a more horror tone with New Mutants next year will strike a chord with audiences. The likes of James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are also reuniting for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, due out November 2018.

Now they’re adding another, as Deadline reports that a Multiple Man movie in in development, with James Franco attached to the central role. He will also produce, alongside longtime X-Men producer/writer Simon Kinberg. They’ve also hired a writer, with Wonder Woman scribe Allan Heinberg brought in to pen the script.

The character has been seen before in the X-Men movies, when Eric Dance played him in 2006’s The Last Stand. Now though this comparatively lesser known character will get a film all to himself. The character is ‘Jamie Madrox, who, in the comics, conveyed his cloning powers at birth, when a second, identical version of him appeared after the doctor slapped the infant to get him to breathe. His father, a worker at the Los Alamos Nuclear Research Center, moved his family to a remote farm where his son — fitted with a special suit to control his powers designed by X-Men patriarch Professor Xavier — lived quietly until the suit malfunctioned and he began to go crazy. His cloning abilities drove Madrox to have various collisions and collaborations with both the X-Men and Fantastic Four.’

It’s not know when we the movie might get a release.

New The Disaster Artist Trailer – James Franco becomes the director of the ‘worst film ever’

November 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While there have been many movies in the last century that have been held up as the world film ever made. However, the one that’s made the strongest run for that title in the last 20 years is probably Tommy Wiseau’s 2003 movie The Room. Met with bemused derision and anger on its initial release, it fast became a cult sensation with audiences invited to marvel at just how dreadful it was.

It’s a film that’s long fascinated James Franco, who’s now made a movie about The Room’s unique creation, The Disaster Artist. It tells the tale of Wiseau who was more a profound artist in his own mind than reality, who decided to write, direct and star in a semi-autobiographical film. However, what started as a difficult production got progressively worse, as Wiseau’s strange filming methods got increasingly extreme, his money ran out, and not least that Tommy’s acting style was unique to say the least.

The film is out in the US and UK in December. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

The Disaster Artist Trailer – James Franco takes on the director of the worst movie ever

July 18, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Stop the presses – James Franco has made a non-gay movie! However, he’s still interested in outsiders, this time taking on the true story of Tommy Wiseau, the director of 2003’s The Room, with James both directing and starring. The film is held up by many as the worst movie ever made, but has since become a cult favourite due to people being unable to believe how awful it is.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘With The Disaster Artist, James Franco transforms the tragicomic true-story of aspiring filmmaker and infamous Hollywood outsider Tommy Wiseau – an artist whose passion was as sincere as his methods were questionable – into a celebration of friendship, artistic expression, and dreams pursued against insurmountable odds. Based on Greg Sestero’s best-selling tell-all about the making of Tommy’s cult-classic disasterpiece The Room (“The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made”), The Disaster Artist is a hilarious and welcome reminder that there is more than one way to become a legend— and no limit to what you can achieve when you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing.’

The film got some good reviews coming out of its SXSW debut, with many particularly impressed by Franco’s performance. The Disaster Artist is out in US cinemas in December. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

I Am Michael (DVD Review) – James Franco goes ex-gay in a true-life story

April 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

Starring: Charlie Carver, Emma Roberts, James Franco, Zachary Quinto
Director: Justin Kelly
Running Time: 98 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: April 3rd 2017 (UK)

Michael Glatze (James Franco) is a gay man who really wants to help people. Initially working for XY Magazine before increasingly becoming an activist and launching YGA (Young Gay Americans), he becomes a prominent figure advancing the gay cause. However, Michael still feels something is missing. That’s despite having a loving boyfriend, Bennett (Zachary Quinto), and the sometime addition of a third into the relationship, Tyler (Charlie Carver).

After a health scare where he’s convinced he has the disease that caused his father to drop down dead, Michael increasingly turns to religion. What initially seems like an attempt to find meaning and reassurance that death is not the end, takes an unexpected turn when Michael leaves Bennett and publicly announces that he no longer identifies as gay. This causes a bit of a sensation, but Michael is determined he must live his own ‘truth’. That includes his new belief that homosexuality leads people away from being their ‘true selves’, which is the only way to find God. Eventually that takes him into a relationship with a woman. Alien: Covenant Cast & Crew Pic Shows Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston & First Look At James Franco

February 21, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Prometheus may have resulted in some grumbling from critics and audiences, but it was certainly a success at the box office, grossing more than $400 million. It meant that Fox wanted another movie, but they also wanted a few changes, so while Michael Fassbender got to stay, most of the other elements have been jettisoned in favour of what’s said will be a more ‘traditional’ alien movie.

A new cast & crew pic has arrived, which gives us a fresh look at Fassbender, the new lead, Katherine Waterston, as well as our first official view of James Franco in the film, who is rumoured to be playing Ellen Ripley’s father.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.’

The movie will be in cinemas next May.

I Am Michael Trailer – James Franco & Zachary Quinto star in the long-delayed ex-gay drama

December 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s almost two years since I Am Michael premiered at the Sundance Film Festival – enough time for director Justin Kelly and producer/star James Franco to have made and released another movie, King Cobra. However, it’s only now that the movie is coming to VoD and a few cinemas in the US in January.

Even the promised threeway between Franco, Zachary Quinto and Charlie Carver couldn’t get it released sooner.

Adapted from Benoit Denizet-Lewis’ New York Times Magazine article ‘My Ex-Gay Friend, I Am Michael tells the real-life story of Michael Glatze (Franco), formerly a leading US journalist for prominent gay magazine XY, and also an activist working for LGBT rights. After a profound and life-changing epiphany, Glatze gradually renounced his homosexuality and turned to Christian ministry, becoming outspokenly opposed to queer lifestyles.

Zachary Quinto plays his ex-boyfriend, Bennett, with Emma Roberts, Daryl Hannah and Charlie Carver also starring.

The film got a rather mixed reaction at cinemas, which perhaps isn’t surprising for a movie that takes on the difficult subject of ex-gay ministry, and makes its ‘hero’ a man who went from gay to outspoken homophobe, and who to this day is married to a woman.

Finally a trailer has been released. Take a look below. [Read more…]

James Franco Revealed To Be In Alien: Covenant

December 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Normally the cast of a movie is announced before it goes into production, but with Alien: Covenant, they’ve waited until several months after production wrapped to reveal that James Franco and Danny McBride will be in the movie. And with Franco’s role, it could turn out to be quite key.

As a result, we’re heading into spoiler territory, so if you don’t want to know more, stop reading.

According to AVP Galaxy, Franco is set to be the captain of the spaceship, Covenant. He’ll also be married to lead character Daniels, played by Katherine Waterson. Apparently though it’s a fairly small role, with Franco only appearing in the first 10 minutes, and then briefly later one. There are also rumours that he may be the father of Ellen Ripley.

The movie is due out May 19th, 2017, although we haven’t had a trailer yet (some expect one to be included with Rogue One or one of December’s other major releases).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. Why Him? Red Band Trailer – Overprotective dad Bryan Cranston doesn’t like James Franco

The one-sided rivalry – and Ned’s panic level – escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.’

Brent Corrigan Thinks James Franco’s Gay-Themed King Cobra Is ‘Heinous’ & Shows ‘Contempt’ For Gay Culture

October 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sean-paul-lockhartFrom the moment it was announced that James Franco was producing and starring in King Cobra, gay porn star Brent Corrigan (real name Sean Paul Lockhart) has let the world know he doesn’t want anything to do with it, despite the fact it’s partly about him.

Largely though, he’s been relatively magnanimous, saying it wasn’t sanctioned by him (he turned down a cameo role and a consultant job), and doesn’t think it tells the true story. However, he’s now stepped up with a few stronger words.

When asked on Twitter whether he was involved in the movie and if it was an accurate telling of the story, he replied, ‘No true telling about it. Not approved by me. It tells a story with contempt for queer culture & mockery for porn.’ He then added, ‘I gave them permission to use my name’s but explicitly made it clear that their story was heinous & not sanctioned. They told me they couldn’t change their screen play after we entered negotiations. The screenplay was the fault line.’

Unfortunately he doesn’t explain exactly why it shows ‘contempt for queer culture & mockery for porn’ (it does have a gay director, even if Franco and much of the cast is straight). However, his particular issue seems to be that they have made him a bigger part of the story of the murder of porn producer Byran Kocis than he feels he really was, and missed out completely somebody who thinks he was absolutely key to bringing about justice.

The film is about how porn actors Harlow Raymond Cuadra and Joseph Manuel Kerekes (Keegan Allen and James Franco) savagely killed porn producer and head of Cobra Video, Bryan Kocis (Christian Slater). They thought by doing so they’d be able to make it big behind-the-scenes of the porn world, and lure adult star Brent Corrigan (Garrett Clayton) to work for them in order to make a massively successful movie. You can watch the trailer here. It’ll be out in the US October 21st, but no UK release is currently set.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Corrigan is playing to release an autobiography, detailing his own take on what happened. [Read more…]
